I've seen a lot of posts about the cheapest but what is the nicest hotel within walking distance of the US Embassy? And what is the best nearby restaurant for dinner?

Thanks for any replies.

My wife (then fiancee) stayed at the Bayview hotel twice (medical & interview) & she said it was fine. Its not the cheapest or most expensive hotel in the area, but from what I've heard its one of the better ones.

Anybody know the name of the very good restaurant, specializing in sea food, on Manila Bay I believe (its right over the water)? Its a short cab ride from the Embassy I believe. Near where the tourist boats leave for Corregidor.

Swagmans Hotel. Not the most glamorous, but has the best ammenties. Western food, Free breakfast, Free Internet Cafe on second floor, Travel Agency on-site, Free airport transportation. Cheapest room rate 2200 php a night. Its an older place with smaller type rooms, but well maintained and very clean. Hot water, cold air-con, and cable television.

Zambonga's Restuarant (Totally mispelled that! lol, its spelled like the province down south)

It has a Chavencano theme, with a Mariachi band that plays

Good seafood, good atmosphere and a proffesional waitstaff

My fiance and I went with an expat friend, his wife and his driver in May. We ate so much they could have rolled us out of there, and the bill was around 5000 peso's.

Hope this helps,

Wyatt

Yes - thanks a lot. Actually the restaurant I was trying to think of is Harborview Harborview Restaurant but I will have to consider Zambonga's or whatever it is too :-)

If I were you, I would not listen to a couple of disgruntled Bayview Park customers and their gripes. These clowns are lifeless loners and do not know what they are talking about. We have stayed at Bayview and it is a very fine establishment.

Yes you have to take TripAdvisor reviews with a grain of salt. If 100 people stay at a hotel & 10 had a bad experience then probably 9/10 of them will make a comment, while maybe 5/90 that had a good experience will comment (its human nature).

My husband and I always stay at Diamond Hotel since his first trip here. In fact, I will going to book the room next week coz my husband is coming home. It's quite expensive though but we like it there coz everything is excellent and very well secured. Going to embassy is not a problem. It's only 5 minutes away from the hotel. Takes 10 minutes if it's traffic. No big deal.

For us, Bayview is one of the finest hotels by the American Embassy. We were there for a week and after our splendid stay, my husband lamented why he ever stayed at Best Western La Corona and Cherry Blossoms and Miramar on some other previous occasions. He added that these other hotels are like pieces of junk in a shanty town.

I agree this hotel is not good, but if your staying for just a day or two for the interview/medical is not a bad idea since it is just infront of the embassy.

you can also try the citystates hotel, we've stayed there and we enjoyed it.. it is so sulit.

Bayview Park is far more superior than City States. I have stayed at both hotels and I'll never check in at City States again unless I am paid some sort of "appearance fee". The ambiance and surroundings at Bayview are incomparable. At City States, you could be mugged or run over by a jeepney as you get out of the hotel. Anybody who opts for City States over Bayview is out of his mind.
