Hello to all my ME/NA sisters. Sorry I do not post a lot of this site. There seems to be much bickering which I do not like.

I have a serious question. My fiance was interviewed in Cairo on February 16th of this year. When he sent his packet back to them in November, he had to send his passport. So now 8 months later he still does not have his visa or his passport. His brother who live in Turkey right are are wanting him to come to visit. He wants to call the embassy to see if he can have his passport till he gets his visa. What are you feelings on this? Plus, I was curious, isn't it against the law to hold someones passport for a lengthy time?

Thanks for you help.

Jasmine

Wow,

I'm not much help here, but are you sure they still have his passport and haven't sent it back. I would call them now!! That's a long time to not have a passport bearing in mind for alot of people that is their only form of i.d.

Good Luck

Yeah, I've spoke to other gals going through the Cairo embassy and they tell me the same thing. Doesn't seem right to me yet we are both worried that if we ask for it they will get ignorant regarding his visa.

Interesting subject Jasmine because my fiance and I have been talking about the exact same thing for months. He is wanting to escort and then stay with his sister in Saudi for a while till he gets his visa, but now he can't travel anywhere because he has no passport. Seems very strange to us since the passport is a major form of their identity there in Egypt.

Also noticed that you were interviewed on the 16th. We had ours on the 14th. What kind of run around have you been getting from the embassy? (If any) ;)

Yes, it's standard procedure at the Cairo Consulate to request and hold the passports. I am only speculating, but I would imagine part of it is so that they are not travelling around while processing. Gosh considering all the security checks, another trip somewhere else would probably add even MORE checks they would feel obligated to do. Again, this is just speculation. Seems like we are all waiting forever.

Wonder why it's standard in Cairo and not in other Middle Eastern countries? Does not make a lot of sense to me, however nothing in the process is making much sense to me these days.

aslamo alikom my brothers/sisters,

horus_gal, i think you can ask for passport, and whenever they are done with the secuirty checks, they will call your finance and ask him to send his passport again, and you can email the embassy, they reply within 3 days.

And it seems to be like im in the same boat with you, i have my fiance visa interview at Feb 7th, 2006.And my case now undergo another administrative check, but this time with other agencies.

good luck
