The new 'good' job: 12 bucks an hour

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Massive investment in renewable energy could ultimately create 4 million manufacturing jobs. But for the workers in the bottom rung of this movement, the shift to green jobs could very well mean a pay cut of nearly 60%, a trend spreading across the entire manufacturing sector.

Many of the entry-level jobs making green energy components start at $12 an hour, much less than the now extinct $28 an hour job that had allowed high school-educated workers in the auto sector to achieve middle class status.

"These are not very good jobs," said Philip Mattera, research director at Good Jobs First, a labor-friendly research group.

Sometimes it stings but... the market is, what it is.

Part of GM's problem was over inflated wages and perks.

The only place you can get away with beating the laws of the market is where there is a monopoly. (Govt)

After being unemployed for a year, I gladly took a job making $15 an hour, where I had made $50K the year before. Desperation makes you willing to take anything you can get your hands on. I have a masters degree and speak four languages. We began to feel the recession issues started in 2007...we're actually excited to be employed even if it isn't what we truly want to do.
