Four-Step Healthcare Solution

Health is not a commodity, it is the foundation of the ability to engage life on any level.

Health is indeed a commodity. Suggesting otherwise is absurd.

Come on Mr Matt - a few more words would be a bit more convincing than a trite one-liner.

Aye, sir.

By suggesting that health[care] is not a commodity--you're implying that either it is a condition of general welfare (like air), or it is not ascribed as valuable to attain an end (like rocks or leaves).

Healthcare is a good like any other in the market, and it's value is measured as compared to other goods and services.

Excluding the medium of money, healthcare is traded by suppliers for other goods and services in the market. Inhibit the ability to trade this service, and there will exist no healthcare.

The only logical way I can think of that would make healthcare a right, and not a commidity would be to forcibly enslave a certain percentage of the population, and under intense fear, force them to perform America's healthcare. If they deviate from this, they shall be slaughtered and fed as sustinence to the remaining medical slaves.

But of course, I may've misinterpreted what you meant. After all, it was only one line. ;)

Diamonds and coriander leaves have value.

 sounds like a plan. i'm hungry for some nurse.

A few months ago, I spent a lot of time in the hospital. I once saw this hot asian RN slowly, very slowly, eat a banana. Even in the midst of everything that was happening, i found that hot.

Healthcare as a right as opposed to a privilege.

What about Matt's argument that is health care is a right, then that would mean health care providers no longer have the same rights the rest of us do?

If they have those rights, then that should include the right to not practice their profession and charge as they see fit. If health care becomes a right, then doesn't take take those rights away from the providers?

Surely it depends purely on who you work for.

NHS doctors aren't slaves - underpaid perhaps, but you don't lose your fundamental human rights.

It's not the care that's the right, it's the health. Europeans feel, for better or worse that being born with an illness, or propensity for illness should not have a totally adverse affect on the quality of life that one is able to lead.

They no longer have the ability to charge what they wish. Prices are dictated to them, correct?

That may not be slavery, but it's close.

It's not the care that's the right, it's the health.

But there can be no health without the care; there can be no care without a provider.

In general, I would imagine American's feel that way too, they just can't get their heads around a reasonable way to provide that. What we have now though, just stinks. Almost anything would be better :)

How is it close to slavery A.J? People have a choice as to whether they wish to be health care providers or not. They know when they start the training what that means in terms of potential income and that's true no matter whether you are providing care in a government or privately run system.

This plan is, however, flawed. The health slaves have to compelled by slave drivers, and slave driving is a service, and therefore would need to be compensated. So it can't be free.

They can also cease to be health care workers at any time, and become bankers or whatever else they want to be/do.
