Hi guys! So I went to my surgeon today and its not arthritis. Its actually some rare called an entrapped nerve in my ankle. Basically now I have to wait 2 months to get an MRI and an EMG test done and then she will schedule me for surgery which consists of an epidural and then her cutting into my ankle and releasing the nerve.

I'm really kind of bummed because she was telling me I won't be able to have surgery for at least 4 months and thats basically the time i'd be leaving if all goes smoothly with the interview and whatnot. UGH! But there is nothing i can do about it. My fiance knew there might be a possiblity of a surgery and 2-3 weeks on crutches is better than the 6 weeks i would have to be on crutches if it was a surgery for arthritis. Still sucks though.

I had to have surgery before I left too, and initially it was scheduled out a couple of months away, but I got them to put me on the cancelation list and I ended up having surgery a week later!

See if you can do that to speed up your move date a little maybe.

Good luck!

You could also look at doing the MRI at a private clinic...if it is in your budget. It would cut your waiting time by the 2 months. Now I am not sure where you are from, but I know that in Ottawa you can ask to have your MRI done at the Children's Hospital. They only use the MRI for kids during the day time hours, so if you are willing to go say at 3am, you can get in quite quickly. You might want to check if your local childrens hospital has the same option.

So I have my EMG scheduled for this Monday. I could not believe they scheduled me so fast for that. Its a 2 hour exam which does not sound fun but hell, i need it so i'm going.

My MRI date was given to me for June 28th but because I will be in Florida on vacation they then had to push me back all the way to August 9th.

This means my next surgeon appointment will only be the last week of August so surgery will probably be scheduled for October-November the way its looking now. So my plans to leave earlier have been thwarted. The only good thing is all my debts will be paid off and I will be able to save a little more.

However, I am going to try and convince my surgeon to push me up on the surgery list because she knows I am going through all this visa stuff and want to go and get married. Maybe she'll take pity on me and bump me up.

Like I said, get on the cancelation list. For both the MRI and the surgery. Not many people know they can do that, so they can usually move you in pretty fast if you let them know you can go any time if someone else cancels. Otherwise they usually leave the appointment time empty.

The cancellation list has over 200 people on it. So thats a no go unfortunately.

Well - but just because it's 200, doesn't mean it won't work out - sometimes people can't accept the earlier appt so they go down the line - those people have regular appts too so hopefully they'll either clear out or not accept. better to be on it 'just in case' right?

Sorry about your surgery. But at least you know you'll feel better after. Wouldn't want to start a new life with problems, and thankfully you're getting it done here first.

You never know. You just may find they call you for an earlier appt. anyways. I hope it all goes in your favour. Have fun in Florida!!

What i meant to say was that yes, they put me on the cancellation list. But they said that i probably will not get called because of so many people ahead of me so Aug. 9th will be my appt. Maybe something freaky will happen and i'll get something sooner. But August is better than October which is what they originally told me I'd get as an appt. And I'm definitely going to see if I can get my surgeon to operate on me sooner. She'll be earier to convince because she knows I'm going through all this visa stuff

I had to have a few bone scans and MRI's when I was still in Canada and they lost my file and a bunch of other stuff so when they found it again I was on a "call list" and I got slotted in at 4am or something which sped things up... I was far down the list but think of all the people that don't answer, don;t call back, can't get to the hospital at that hour, or just say "no thanks, I'll wait"... Get your name on their and keep your fingers crossed - you just never know!
