Just sent in the DS-230 packet for my wife yesterday---It arrived today. My I-864 was sent Monday and arrived tuesday. My wife is getting her vaccinations today in Costa Rica. This NVC stage has moved pretty quickly so now I guess I am just waiting for approval. Is anything else needed from me at this point. Or do I just wait for them to contact me. Barring an RFE I have no other items to send them, correct?

Why I'm asking is today I just picked up a 2 week trip, leaving next wednesday--maybe a few more days as well, and won't be in an area where outside contact will be easy. And I will have no internet access.

If I get an RFE how long is the time limit generally? If I don't reply for 3 weeks would it be fine?

How about an address of where any RFE's would be sent to so I can have someone check my E-mails every other day or so to catch it early, and send it in for me.

Of course I'm not expecting one, though the valid times on the police reports and marriage certificates are confusing. Everyone has a different answer. Even the employee at the embassy told my wife when she picked up her K3 packet (were going for CR1 now) that the CR police certificate as well as marriage certificates are only valid for thirty days. The police report I sent in had a valid time of three month's and they told me earlier the marriage certificates were good for a year. So I sent in what I had anyways---Just hope they are valid.

I'd hate to be in the middle of knowhere for a few weeks and have that hold things up but in my occupation when something comes along you take it.

RFE's are time sensitive - they will tell you when they expect you to respond. Usually you have more than 2 weeks to send it back.

They will tell you where to send them if you get one.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

One more thing. If the case gets completed and an interview scheduled, do I have to confirm anything right away or would it be fine to wait until I get back. This trip would get me back here around the end of the month.

Also, does all info (RFE's, Case completed, etc..) get put into the phone system and can it be checked quickly or would I need to speak to an operator. I'm sure we'll have a satelite phone on board but racking up minutes on hold waiting at several bucks/min can get quite expensive.

Wondering if I can have my brother call NVC once every other day and find out if they're requesting anything just by punching in the case # and some other info. Or would he have to talk to an operator. Then I could have him call me if somthing's up.

Just tryin to see all posibilities before I leave.

No - you will have some time to take care of things.

Yes - the status of your case is usually accessible via the phone/web - but that tends to vary.

Why don't you have your brother just check your mail and then he can use that to let you know.

He'll notify me if any mail comes but most of the info I've been recieving from NVC has been from E-mail or actually logging into the online payment section. I haven't recieved much from regular mail.

Thanks

if you didn't contact NVC for 1 year, through email, phone, etc...then you have to refile again..but i think 3 weeks would be fine. However, they might send you another request if they have not received any response from you.

You don't have to confirm your interview. as long as you have your interview appointment letter, there would be no problem on your interview. Good luck!

You definately have the one year time frame to get back, so if you take a little vacation in between, here and there, its really no biggie!

Oh yes, and RFEs, if you have submitted your email information to NVC, you can check your notifications through email...as I got 2 RFEs and I knew about them through my email probably even before AVR or operator.
