How is your right to be married infringed by the right of a homosexual couple to be married?

the same way your right to be married is infringed by plural marriage.

It isn't in any way infringed. Most people just find it icky. Like gay marriage. I don't know why. It's not that big a deal.

exactly the point - both about plural marriage and gay marriage.

Wrong. It's got nothing to do with whether someone finds it 'icky' or not. How ridiculous.

uh huh.......still trying to avoid confronting your narrowmindedness.

I'm not saying everybody but for a lot of people, sure it does. Whether for religious or just plain physical reactions people think about either and go.... "ewwwww, it's wrong" That's the ridiculous part. People shouldn't be so hung up about sex but they are, thanks to our uptight culture.

Real love stories never have endings...

Still misunderstanding fundamentally what it means to be broad minded and how this has absolutely nothing to do with the current argument.

Isn't the problem though - that the people who think that way don't ask themselves what the basis for that opinion is?

I personally believe that people are hung about homosexuality (as sex in general) because they have been conditioned to think that way by religious ideology.

someday you'll figure it out. if you really want to have freedom for everyone, limiting one's options to only one partner still leaves one group out in the cold. can you guess which one that might be? from this list:

lesbians....gays.....bisexuals......transvestites.

Charles, seriously there is a fundamental difference between a contract between two people and one that encompasses multiple people. It's not evening things out to include more people, it's fundamentally changing the contract.

Shooter you don't like homos but I know why. They are a threat to your cloak of masculinity because underneath all that he man bravado, you are in fact attracted to the thought of ####### penetration, it turns you on. How absolutely ghastly to be caught between this rock and that hard place. To admit to the attraction would be to admit that you are less than alpha male so you have to suppress that thought, deep down beneath virulent hatred. If homosexuality didn't attract you at all, you wouldn't feel any need to condemn it. You are not bound by religious rules but yet you are drawn to castigate. That says it all really.

Well, that's not true Charles, but that isn't the only reason why bigamy is illegal. However, leaving the complex legal problems that plural marriages create, in terms of equality a plural marriage is almost inevitably going to produce a complex set of emotions that are simply not present within monogamous marriage. It is very hard for me to imagine a plural marriage where the rights of one of the parties are not somehow infringed because of the unbalanced nature of the relationship.

don't be so narrow minded. as long as all parties are of legal age and consent, what's the problem really?

No problem at all. I think polygamy should be legal - the more the merrier.

Polygamy would be an infringement as it only allows men to marry more than one woman, not vice versa. It's also a totally different contract though, so it's not an equivalence.

Because they are jealous that other people can make it work, while they are stuck

with just one sex partner for the rest of their lives

With more than one partner you have to build provisions into several branches of law. To say that is impractical would be an understatement.

But this of course takes for granted that there is a big crowd of people pushing for plural marriage. I really don't think that that's the case and probably no coincidence that the only examples in our society are based on fringe religions.

Would it really be so difficult to implement?

In many cases the existing laws would still work if we replaced "2" with "N > 2" (for example,

dividing marital assets by N instead of 2.)

Child custody and guardianship laws (which usually generate the most acrimonious disputes)

wouldn't have to change because there are always *two* biological parents, never N > 2.
