I know there is a spot in the wiki that gives a bit of a list of things you would need. i have a couple of questions tho,

-for the police reports should i get both kinds? the nation wide name search and the back ground check? and can i get them without the paper from consulat saying i need to get them? im in ontario and would like to get that done now if i can ahead of time cus it can take some weeks to get them

- do i need to bring the copy of the I-129F file that we made with me? or just the items requested on the specific list along with pictures and proof.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

I'm from ontraio as well and got the police check done in about 10 minutes from my local police station, the fingerprint one is only needed if you have a criminal record.

You can get them without a letter from the consulate, just tell them it is for immigration.

I brought a copy of mine with me because I wanted to be over prepared rather than possibly put on the spot being asked about something for which I had no back-up. I wasn't asked for anything besides the standard forms and evidence that are on the interview list, but I would always err on the side of caution, because the consequences of not having something they want to see would be way too frustrating for me.

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!
Crossed at Detroit/Windsor Tunnel... pretty painless, about 45 minutes, inexperienced officer, asked for and received EA stamp
  • 4/13/09 -- Married in New Orleans!!!!!!!!
  • 5/30/09 -- Filed AOS/AP/EAD
  • 6/1/09 -- AOS etc received in Chicago

So true!! I can't remember the pic's I used for the petition, so I'm bringing them again!! Actually, our files included every trip we did, (quite a few)and pic's; emails, boarding passed, and credit card receipts from each trip. Little did I know at that time, we could have just used one of them! So there's only been one more time that Tim and I have seen each other since the initial filing. So I'll bring that evidence, plus the emails, and such, the chat history on skype, plus as much detail of our up coming wedding as possible.

Police check - just ensure it mentions that the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or the national criminal records repository was searched using the applicant’s name and date of birth

Take or don't take your copy of the I-129f - whatever makes you feel comfortable - I guarantee you they already have a copy

Most people have some kind of folder with their K-1 stuff in it, usually tabbed to find things easily. If you're going to do that, along with additional "evidence", then you'll have it with you anyway. Nice to have if they refer to something in it.
