It could be. I bought a Learn Spanish CD so I can listen to it in the car. It doesn't give you the spelling of the words so, based on my recent education, I'm thinking that's a real word.

I have the Rosetta Stone CD series for Soputh American Spanish! I havent started it yet. 1 of these days!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Oh! I wanted to buy Rosetta Stone! Except the crappy bookstore we were in didn't sell them, and I really wanted to do something productive while I was driving 10 hours from NC to FL. Let me know what you think of it.

Did you learn anything in that 10 hours?

For the past six months or so, I have been reviewing computer games on a website for fun. They recently asked me to handle a weekly column, which I agreed to. I never asked for money, both because at the time I was unable to work legally in the US while I waited for my AoS, and because it honestly never occurred to me.

Today I got an e-mail from the site owner, and my editor, asking about my Greencard. When I informed him that yes, indeed, it DID mean I was able to work now, he said, "Well, then it's about time! I've been wanting to hire you officially and compensate you for a while now."

So now here I sit filling out tax forms and signing a contract to send to him. The contract is very plain and small, just states that I agree to write a minimum of three articles a month (I already do four just with my column, and do a lot of additional reviews every month too) and get paid thirty-five dollars apiece. Is it a lot of money? No, but that's not the point. I'm getting paid to do something I love, and even if it's just a few extra hundred dollars a month, it definitely helps out my husband and I. It's extra cash we can use as "play money", and gives us some breathing room.

It feels a little weird, because writing is something I've always loved, but never anything I'd really considered for a job. Heck, before I moved down here I managed a bakery for two years, and I always sort of assumed I'd wind up doing something similar.

Hope this isn't in the wrong place, I just wanted to share and remind everyone looking for work to keep your options open because sometimes work finds you when you least expect it.

That's great!! I know what you mean about thinking that you'll wind up with something similar. I work for Curves for Women ( a job I love!!) and when I was in SC in April, the girl there asked if I was hoping to still work for the company. I told her I wouldn't be able to legally work for a while and she said, well, just bring in your resume, cause you just never know these things. But who knows..some other door just may open for me.

I spent all of my school years in French immersion, my teachers all telling me that I would need it one day.

And now that I live in Florida where NOBODY SPEAKS IT, or cares, I just want all those years of my life back. Do you know how many parties I skipped to study for stupid French finals?!

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I told my husband he has to buy me a '20s style reporter hat now so I have an excuse for being pushy. He asked when I'd ever needed an excuse.

I hope the punching he got was worth it.

Congrats LDora! I didn't work in the video games area, but a lot of my old colleagues work on the PR side of video game reviewing and give out the games to review. A lot of them are at E3 this week :)

Thanks, SapphireDreams!

Regarding Rosetta, I actually wanted to mention that I can confirm the program works. My husband got a copy from his company because it pays to be bilingual, and I've been using the Spanish version myself. The method they use will get you a lot farther than any class you might take, a lot quicker. I really recommend at least checking it out and seeing if it works for you.
