Kamal and I met on a site called Webdate. After several months of talking and talking about getting married I went to Morocco. And while he was out shopping and I was getting henna done, he picked up a gift for my son. He came home walking into the house with a sword in one hand and a little box in the other. He says shaking the sword at me, "Marry me or else". it was probably the most romantic thing that has ever been done for me by any man. And the rest, well thats history.

that's awesome!

I was always a bit miffed that my parents didn't have an exciting proposal story - they just mutually decided that it would be a good idea to get married after dating awhile.

Then what do I do? Not have an exiting proposal story - we simply mutually decided to get married.

Looks like these things run in my family, along with chosing a marriage partner that pisses off parents.

Joined Interracialcupid.com as a joke & thats where I meet Hassen. Met hubby on interracialcupid (didn't read the fine print & had no idea it was an international website). He chased me all over that site, I tried shutting out his IM windows but he just kept popping back up so I figured OK, lets have some fun & chat!

Chats lead into hours & hours of conversations - day & nite - at one point I even tried to convince him to meet someone he could at least see & touch but nope he was hooked. (I think it was my pic on that site!)

When we finally met, I spent lots of time getting to know him, his family, friends & seeing Tunisia. He told his family ahead of time he was going to ask me to marry him (I had no idea) & sooooo on the 4 month anniversary of the day we met he asked me at the beach to be his wife - still makes me "mushy" thinking about it! (I was on the beach of the Mediterranean being proposed to!!!!! Not one of my gurls can top that !!!)

He asked me so sweetly, I had him say it again!!! Now were Mr. & Mrs. ~ couldnt imagine being with anyone else! (F)

Funny....I don't even remember the proposal. It just kind of evolved I guess.

Now the wedding I remember. I kept my eye on the door planning on a quick escape. And by the look on my husbands face I think he was thinking the same thing. But we were both too nervous to do it so we got married instead.

Glad we did.

Aw, a couple of deer in headlights

I remember our wedding too. We had it done by a judge at the courthouse. I had to stop her in the middle. She was about to ask my husband to repeat, "In the name of the Father..." I'd never given "that look" to a judge before. :help:

My husband had asked a very close friend of ours just how it was done in America. She explained to him the man buys the woman an engagement ring and he sometimes gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him. So, he takes me to several jewelry stores looking for rings. I knew he was going to ask me but how or when officially we would become engaged I wasn't sure. He bought me my ring so I kept thinking oh its tonight..TONIGHT, TONIGHT! That man made me wait until the next evening. Apparently he had to speak with my parents whom told him that we were grown and seemed like a good fit and gave their blessings to us.

My husband took me back into the bedroom and shut the door. He sat me on the bed and kept putting my hands in my lap...lol. He got down on one knee and told me in his own way how much he loved me. He said I can't say everything in English that I want to say so here it goes....English words, Arabic words. He was shaking, he could barely put the ring on my finger. Just as he comes to kiss me my friend comes running into the bedroom with nothing but a towel on screaming HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!! She is wild with fright, jumps over me on the bed and is standing straight up stiff as a board. It was a huge cockroach, the biggest one I have ever seen and it flew past her as she was going to her bedroom from the bathroom. She was so scared she peed on our bed!!

I love to tell our story of how the girl from the West met her love from the East.

I think I've told my story before, but it's all so much fun to remember.

Amed and I met when I went on vacation to Europe after graduating from college. He was working at a shop in Paris. One evening, I came wandering into the shop to get out of the rain. We started chatting, made plans to meet up at Versailles the next day, and spent several days together. We kept in touch long-distance, and I made several trips to Paris over the years. Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and see how things would go if we lived in the same city for a while.

I moved to Paris for a year. About 6 weeks before my visa expired, Amed invited me to meet him for a picnic at this park I'd been bugging him to go to for months. He said he had an errand to run that morning, so he would just meet me at the park. I was running late, missed the train, and had to take 3 different modes of transportation to get there. He kept calling me every 2 minutes, wondering where i was. I finally arrived at the entrance of the park, laden down with picnic stuff in one hand, my dog's leash in the other. My hair was all over the place, I was hot and cranky because he kept calling me to hurry me along. I turned the corner, and I saw him standing there in a suit and tie with a huge bouquet of flowers. I barely registered the ring box in his other hand. I don't even remember what he said next because it was just a rush of emotions, and I saw my MOM sitting on a bench right behind him!

He had flown her in as a surprise so she could be there during the proposal. The "errand" he had to run was to go pick her up from the airport.

I still smile when I think of that day...nothing will ever be quite as romantic!

I am friends with my husbands brother and sister in law and I seen a picture of Khmais about 5 years ago. I said oooo, he's cute he is going to be my husband and we all laughed ;. Well in November of 2008 his parents came to the US to visit and I would come to visit them and see how they were doing. Khmais brother said to his mother Candace says she is going to marry my brother. His mother looked at me and said I like her she can marry him. I thought she was playing and personally out of her mind but then she called him and said I met your wife. I couldnt believe it we started talking from that day on and I loved him immediately. I didnt get a formal proposal but being chosen by a mother, you truly cant get any better than that!

hmmm.. Well it was kind of strange for me but..... first trip to Jordan we had casually talked about getting married MAYBE but not defiantly and no dates or anything like that were set in stone.

Ahmad and I were sitting in his bedroom having a conversation me at computer sending an email to family back home he was on the edge of his bed. Layla (MIL) walked in the room was asking me if I wanted fruit (in Arabic of course) I said yes she came back with a plate of random things and before she walked out my husband said something. Next thing I knew the whole house was in the bedroom with a storm of Arabic.

He had told his mother we were getting married WITHOUT formally asking me. I mean of course I realized meeting the family was a big deal but I can’t imagine what his mother was thinking. Her baby was going to marry some American non-Muslim with two kids.....I cant imagin she was thrilled but she LOVES me now :)

So I guess he NEVER really proposed, either way I'm happier than a bug in a rug.

Ok the roach story I am going to have to retell that. will I be infringing on any copyrights ? because that’s a funny story should be in a movie somewhere... HEHE

So our story :

I met Youssef when I was on vacation in Morocco in December of 2004 with my dad in , younger sister and her best friend. We were there for a 2 week visit and Marrakech was towards the end of our trip. We had been in country about a week and I was so sick of Moroccan men by that point. It was constant talking, whispering etc - a few guys even asked my dad if they could marry us. By the time we got to Morocco the last thing I was interested in was a Moroccan guy. The day before New Years we were in the Marrakech souq and my sister met a guy in one of the shops who spoke English. It was at a point in the trip where we were really missing normal food. My sister befriended him and even had our guide tell him where we were staying so that they could meet up later (she was 16 at the time and doing this behind our backs). That night when he showed up at our riad I was shocked. She asked him if he would call one of his friends to keep her friend company. I had no idea she was doing this because I was gone with my dad. When we went out that night and were walking in the kasbah, this guy started walking right next to me. I turned to him to say something insulting like "get the F*** away from me." But when my eyes met his the first thought in my mind was "This is the guy I'm going to marry."

This was actually the souq guys friend who was there to keep my sisters friend company. But they couldn't talk to each other. He only spoke French and Arabic and she only spoke Spanish and English. I had brushed aside that first inclination and instead was translating for the two of them because I spoke French. She wasn't really interested in him so he and I kept up the conversation although my French was not so great. That night I told her that I was interested in him and if she wasn't I would like to talk to him more. New Year's Eve we went out again (all of us) and ended up going to a cafe in the medina where he kissed me. He's super shy so this was a big surprise but it was one of those moments where your foot pops up off the ground. We only spent one more day there before going to the Sahara but I missed him like crazy even though in the back of my head it was just a fling and didn't mean anything.

When I got home I emailed him to see if he was serious and we emailed back and forth for weeks until finally I called him. His English was so limited and we couldn't talk much but we tried. He begged me to come back and see him so 3 months later I had spring break from school and I went for 6 days. I got to Marrakech and was stuck in customs for so long I was scared he would leave! Finally I got through and got my bags and was so anxious. I walked out and there he was waiting. It was amazing. We went back to his house (i had met his family on the previous trip with my dad). He helped me take my suitcase upstairs to the bedroom and I sat on the bed and said I was going to nap because I was so exhausted. He said ok and turned around, then he came back and sat on the bed next to me and gave me two rings and said "I want you to be my wife please". I got a little teary and said "are you sure?" He said "I can't imagine someone else, because you are perfect." So that was it! We had an engagement party while I was there and spent 2 days in Essouaira before I went home. We ended up getting married 3 times. Once Islamically there (more like a contract between our families), our civil wedding here in the US and then a marriage at the mosque. He told me, well no backing out now - I married you three times!!!

That's it ;)
