Hi guys!

Just want to make sure we're doing everything we're supposed to be doing. Gets kind of confusing in the guides.

My finace is now my wife...Thank you!

She is here with me in the U.S.

We applied for her SSN.

Here is the question.

What is the best way to file for the EAD? (There is an immigration office in Portland that we can go to and we have the wedding certificate).

Is there yet another fee? (Or is it included with the K-1 Visa Application)?

Thank you for all of you guys for helping us get our wives/husbands here and getting people squared away.

You would send in the AOS package. With that, you would include your EAD application, and AP. (look at the K-1 AOS section in the guides).

Yes - there are more fees. (for the AOS proper, the EAD/AP are free if filed with the AOS - $1010.00)

Thank you for all of you guys for helping us get our wives/husbands here and getting people squared away.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

I do not think any immigration office will let you do a walk-in greencard application (also known as AOS). You need to mail your applications and wait for biometrics and then the interview. Also be aware that the greencard you will receive is a temporary greencard and you will need to file for the permanent one (also called removal of conditions) in about 2 years (apply before the greencard expires - up to 90 days prior to the expiration). Read up n the guidelines. Good Luck

Kevin & Maria, as Bobby_Umit and motu already pointed out, look at the guides here on the VJ.

You need to file for AOS (Adjustment of Status) so your wife can become a permanent resident and work.

Look here: AOS

You will find everything you need to know, forms you have to download and a checklist of paperwork you have to send in.
