Ok peeps, we are pretty sure that the last week of July we are moving to TX, closer to the family in Houston and Baton Rouge. To Houston is roughly 781. I googled UHAUL, Budget, Penske and they are all looking at around $900+ for a 16' vehical to move. We have a chevy car that we will drive but the KIA needs to be pulled for that distance.

Any ideas of what to do? Im thinking what if we find someone with a big truck, but will that hold a washer, dryer, couch and mattresses? Or would my chevy aveo be able to pull a small trailor behind it and a personal truck pull the KIA SUV? I need ideas... throw them our way! Thanks!

rent a u-haul and pull one of the vehicles with the u-haul, have the other vehicle follow you.

yah that is what was going to be also nearly $900 or more. A 16ft Uhaul to put all our stuff in, the hook to pull the KIA behind it and then I drive the smaller chevy.

I also thought, if I can get my uncle available... maybe he can use his truck to load up the couch or washer and dryer and hook up Adams Kia to his truck and I just rent a 6x12 pull on and hook it up to the little chevy.

so what city along the way do you intend to get the transmission replaced in?

so my chevy aveo will not hold a 6x12 pull along???

check the owner's manual to see what the max weight limit is, i'd be surprised if it's over 1000 pounds - which is almost what a trailer that size above will weigh empty.

tow one vehicle behind the truck.

a trailer is easier on the towed vehicle (costs a few more $$$), a dolly is less expensive (puts some wear/tear on the vehicle being towed).

it's a move more than 50 miles. you can write this off on your taxes (keep receipts).

I will hopefully have my uncle here help us with the driving. I reserved Penske 16ft truck with dolly and insurance for $753. We can cancel that anytime up to 48hrs or change the date as well. Hopefully this will work out for us!

Just FYI, I drove all the way from NY to Texas in a 16' Penske truck. It was the most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever sat in. Brutal. You would do well to have some help driving. :)

Tamara, get the truck and tow one vehicle behind you. You and Adam can take turns driving the truck and the other car. Gustavo and I have done this many times - you'll be fine. We've always only had one car, but we rented the 24' truck and normally Gustavo drove the truck. 'Tis fun! :star: Well, maybe not fun but it sure is an adventure in marriage!
