I know its a silly question but I wanted to be sure. I am sure many of you have done it, so somebody would be able to guide me. Just for the record, our marriage was registered in New York. Now i read here, that We will be required to have certified copy of our marriage Certificate at hand during the I-485 interview. How do I obtain one? I checked the NY cityclerk websitet but wasn't sure how to go about it. Do we take our own copies of the certificate and get them attested there at the office or do they just release new copies of our license? The website stated that bureau is charging $15 for each copy. Just wanted to know if there is somebody who has an idea?

Also, I dont have an original Birth certificate at hand. That means no certified copy for it. I do have an official translation by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Would that be good enough?

Help appreciated!

Regards,

If you have your marriage cert, make a plain old photo copy ans send that.

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

Saspak,

The interview letter (I-797C, Notice of Action) I received says that a certified copy of marriage document issued by the appropriate civil authority is required. It says that you must bring it with you to the interview. I had to go to county admin office to get mine, and it cost about $13 or something like that. I'd say, go get it just in case. I know it's a pain to pay to get paperwork, but oh well. You probably need to go to the registrar's office or something in your city/county admin building. Good luck!

We got three certified copies made when we got married. They always seem to want that, everywhere you go, so have the county make you a few copies to have on hand. The Philippine Consulate needs to see a copy to get the wife's passport renewed. They wanted a copy at the AOS interview.

Hey saspak, when i got married they gave me the marriage license.... then after you get married the person who marries you fills it out... they give you a copy which is for you to keep and another one that you can take to the court house , we took it to the court house and they gave us a marriage certificate within 10 minutes they charged us i think $10 to $15 dollars . I don't know if you can go to a different courthouse and get it certified but just in case go to the one where you got your marriage license i hope this helps

Thank You for your reply. I did go to the CityClerk in Queens and got the license first. Then the same office issued the marriage certificate as well, which was mailed to me. I just wanted to know about how to get a copy certified. But YuAndDan's post makes sense. I'll simply show them the original and see if they'll accept a copy then and there.

ansleis, i just saw bellavita's post. You do have an interview today. I hope you were approved. Do share your experience with us and inform us as soon as possible. Hope to hear some good news from your side.
