Any recommendations? I'm looking for no more than 900 THB/night, just in case I have to stay for a couple weeks or longer. Must have A/C, a private bath, and reliable internet access (so I can connect to my office).

I checked them out, and the Honey Hotel looked ok and in my price range, but I can't figure out if they have internet in the rooms. Does anyone know from experience?

I stayed here:

Centre Point Sukhumvit Centre Point Sukhumvit 39 Soi 10, Sukhumvit Rd., Klong Toey, Bangkok, Thailand

And I booked it on this site:

http://www.hoteltravel.com/thailand/bangko...e_sukhumvit.htm

I really liked the hotel, and it is in walking distance of the embassy. Great breakfast too!

There are also Centre Point's on Soi Langsuan and on Wireless that are around $55 - $60 per night USD. More than the 900 baht target, but also look nice and are close to the embassy.

I am usually there on business so stay at one of the Marriott properties. There is a new Courtyard by Marriott near the Hyatt. Rin stayed there (using reward points so I don't know the rate) in March and said it was very nice. I haven't been there as she changed to the JW Marriott for my arrival in Bangkok.

I cut and pasted the wrong Centre Point! I meant to list the one on Wireless Rd: (Thanks, John!)

Centre Point Wireless Road Hotel & Residence 100 Wireless Road, Lumpini, Patumwan, Bangkok, Thailand

http://www.hoteltravel.com/thailand/bangko...re_wireless.htm

It's not cheap by Thailand standards, but it's about normal for any hotel here in the states, and very nice.

That does look like a super nice place, but it's also much more than I'm willing to pay, especially since I might even be there for a couple weeks. I'm chasing down a few leads in the budget category. I'm content with a place that is so-so and am not accustomed to staying in unusually nice hotels. I've found a couple that look promising and I'll list them (or at least the one I settle on) once I've chatted with the hotels a bit more. 1 is about 10 minutes walking distance from the embassy for about 770 THB/night, the other is about 2 km away for 690 THB/night.

One thing for sure is have your girl friends go alone and check on room cost. My wife can get up to 50% off a room if she does it alone. Thailand is dual pricing

They do discount for Thai speaking farang. My fiancée and I were driving a motorbike around Chiang Rai and when stopped and asked to pay farang price at a national park I turned around and pointed at my fiancée saying in Thai "I live in Thailand, I work in Thailand, I have a Thai wife and you want me to pay farang prices?" She gave me Thai price as she chuckled.

That area is generally more expensive. I stay near my old neighborhood, right beside The Mall Ram klong boat pier. Good room for about $25 a night at the Ibis Hua Mark. I can get clear across the city on the klong boat for about 21 Baht and in 45 minutes. A taxi ride would be about 190 in perhaps an hour. There are some excellent small restaurants in that area as well: I love some Thai restaurants that appear on side walks after dark complete with short plastic tables and chairs, a roll of toilet paper as napkins and a single gas burner with a wok atop.

There are too many places to stay in Bangkok!

try this site, I used it 2 time, the first time I when to meet my wife and the second time was for our honeymoon I got a nice 5 star hotel for the night. after she seen I payed over $100 she made us move to a cheaper hotel. We always stayed at the Silom Village Inn hotel Bangkok which is a nice place and stuff to do at night. Now she want to move to a cheaper hotel by the Victory Monument, Yes the same place they had the riot's haha, first sign of red shirts and we are out of there. I think they have better markets over there for her to walk around and shop. Oh it will be nice to she her and chase Monday morning :D

what part you want to be in

the embassy part

or what you want to be near to.

the embassy

:P

Well... I told you where!!! Wouldn't hurt to stay there a couple of nights, during the time of the interview and picking up the visa, then move somewhere cheaper!

Think of it as an early honeymoon! ;) The studios have a balcony and kitchenette. In the scheme of how much this whole process will cost you in the end... it's just a drop in the bucket! :D

My Mother-In-Law has several Condos that she rents near Nana BTS on Soi 13. It is a very nice condo, with internet, pool etc. Normally they go for 1500 - 1700 baht a night. If you give me the dates you are thinking I can see what she has and if she will work a deal for a weekly rate, normally she does.

I know it is a bit higher then what you wanted to pay but it is a very nice place, and reliable internet.

Let me know.
