The park ontop of the escarpment?? ya fun for like 3 seconds ( "ooohhh look how the pollution just hangs over the city" "hey whats that weird smell?".... I lived in Hamilton for quite a while before i moved south. His comments about the roller coasters is not so accurate .. they are fun but there are much much better ones in the states it all really depends on what you like to do Niagara Falls will be interesting for a day but really depends on your interests as to what direction to go .. Hamilton does not have alot of any kind of entertainment so you'll either be heading towards Toronto or Niagara

You, warlord and deadpool can be the three anti-Canadian grumps.

My parents both immigrated to Hamilton from Europe and met there and got married there and my brother was born there. It's not as dumpy as you make it out to be.

Also, Wonderland is still pretty fun and you will enjoy it!

I didn't even comment yet ha ha.

Actually I haven't been to Niagra Falls since I was a kid so I can't really remember much about it to be honest. All I remember other then the falls and getting wet in some tunnel and on a boat was a bunch of touristy type things like Ripleys Believe it or Not museam and things like that (like you'd find on Hollywood Blvd). Probably changed now but this was back in the 70's since I was there last...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

While in Niagara Falls, drive along the Niagara Parkway and visit Niagara On The Lake. You might be able to get theatre tickets for the Shaw Festival that is based in NOTL. There is also the War of 1812 Fort George complete with living historians that you might enjoy visiting, as well as shopping in the many wonderful boutiques that grace NOTL. Also in the area - and along the parkway - are several wineries so you could also do one of the winery tours. They are quite enjoyable. Here is a link to the Niagara Wineries Tour: http://www.niagarawinetrail.org/

and the Shaw Festival: http://www.shawfest.com/ and NOTL itself: http://www.niagaraonthelake.com/

The drive from Niagara Falls to Niagara on the Lake is one of the prettiest ones in Ontario.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I thought "Warlord" was a reference to gamers, not a person on these forums! Wow I am confused. I haven't been on these boards long, and it shows!

Thanks for the ideas! I've got a pretty good list going so far!

I left Hamilton in April .... come on seriously Mountain Brow park? like i said about 3 seconds it was a comment in reference to someone asking what there is to do when they come for a visit .. ya there is a layer of brown pollution over the city on warm days even on some clear winter days and drive on down by the beach at the water treatment plant and take a good "wiff" ya some parts are bad .. Hamilton is letting itself go a little sure there are some not too bad areas but for a tourist ..... there is not alot going on in hamilton at the moment theres been some good suggestions like the botanical gardens and maybe dundurn castle (and the OP here can say that's not a castle) but mountain brow park and the farmers market? and dunno why it quoted all these just wanted to grab the dumpy comment by treble

Take a look at the pictures that this guy posted from that park. The park really does give you a great view of Burlington Bay. (Some people can't see the forest for the trees.) There's also a really nice trail starting at Cootes Paradise and going over to the Hamilton waterfront park. Burlington waterfront is also a great place to spend the day with all the shops and the outdoor cafes. Take a drive along Lakeshore Road and North Shore Blvd too. Now I'm super jealous that you're going.

Oh! Get him to drive you up Guelph Line to Rattlesnake Point! That road is awesome. LOL. You can go hiking and caving along the Bruce Trail, and watch the buffalo roam. Don't do what I did, though. I parked my car on the side of the road (you can get free access to the trail at various points along that road) and walked for miles and miles and miles. By the time I realized I was tired, I STILL HAD TO WALK ALL THE WAY BACK TO MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!!! Boy, was that dumb.

Oh, we used to visit Rattlesnake Point all the time. Great hiking. Brings back lots of memories (big sigh!)

Shhhh. If you feel it stinks and its smoggy, that's up to you. But come here to NJ and I will show you some dirty cities that still have places worth seeing!

Hamilton is a large city. IF there is nothing going on there, then I wonder whats going on in small towns.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Looks like we have another Warlord.

You absolutely positively must go on the Maid of the Mist, Arabella! And Casino Niagara is fun if you like the slots.

Agreed! I would also recommend the "new" casino. The Fallsview! I was there this weekend for my Canadian "bachelorette" and it was grand! At one point I was up almost $30 and then I lost it all. I blame the readily accessible bar in the middle of the floor...

Who was hating on the escarpment?! :bonk:

In Toronto itself, I've always enjoyed the neighborhoods. The Annex, The Danforth (Greek), The Beaches, Spadina/Dundas (Chinatown), Bloor West Village, Queen St. .Also Harbourfront, St. Lawrence Market, the Toronto Islands, Black Creek Pioneer Village. Gotta love T-O!

I was at the ROM in March, first time I'd been there since they did the big refurbishment. It's awesome. The dinosaur collection is just fabulous.

I always thought that was in Mississagua? I know everyone used to mispronounce the Massasauga Rattle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistrurus_catenatus) snake (which extends from Texas into southern Ontario) as the Mississauga rattlesnake and that Rattlesnake Point I thought was on that huge bluff thing that you could see off the 401 approaching Mississagua. Unless there's another one, but I do recall hearing that name a lot, but can't remember what the place looks like.

Only been to Hamilton a few times and those were to party at a friends brothers that lived there. So we never went out anywhere. I just remember comming down a big decent into the city from the highway or something.

Actually when I first moved to this job from Colorado Springs there was a girl who worked here that was leaving and she was actually moving with her husband to Hamilton. Both are Americans but he got a good job there doing something. I don't have any contact with her, but when I search my company name on Facebook she has a profile and is still living there after 4 years, so apparently she doesn't seem to mind the town at all...
