Hello everyone, I just had a simple question to see what the process is for AOS. My fiance had her interview last week for the K-1 visa and everything was approved with no problems and she will be picking up her passport this week. The question I had was, does she need to get her birth certificate certified by Reniec for the AOS application. I know she had to do it for the interview at the consulate and she did it and it wasn't a problem, but now im wondering if its necessary also for when I send in the application for AOS after we get married. Well thanks in advance for any responses or help anyone can provide, this site has been really helpful in the whole process and if anyone is in the process of interviewing in Peru, I'll be more than glad to help out with any questions.

My husband's birth certificate that we sent in for AOS was only a photocopy of the original with an English translation, if that helps.

thank you, was your husband from lima or was his birth certificate from somewhere else? because my issue is that my fiance's birthcertificate is from chiclayo so she had to have it certified by Reniec before the consule would accept it, but I dont know if its so specific for AOS.

He's from Lima... but I think you can send in a photocopy of the BC you handed in at the interview (if you kept one) with the RENIEC certification on it.

I doubt it's that specific for AOS though to be honest, but if you have it, send the reniec certified photocopy.

Worst case scenario, if you don't, send in what you have, and if they need it they will issue an RFE and then you'll just have to worry about having someone over there get it certified for you and fedexing it here. Doubt that will happen though.

Good luck!

Suzy

thanks, I think I'm just going to ask my fiance to get it certified if she can before she comes here next month. luckily one of my cousins used to work in Reniec so last time she went to get it certified she was in and out in 20 minutes. Its funny how things always seem so much easier in Peru if you know someone that works in a government office. I'm just trying to make sure I have everything ready so that way when she comes here and we get married I can send out the AOS before the I-94 expires and that way we can go back to Peru as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help.
