POE Miami

My sweetie will be arriving on her K1 visa in about 2 weeks - POE Miami. Yeah!!!

Any do's or don'ts at POE?? She is nervous at heck. Anyone with experience coming through Miami??

I have been through there many times with no problem, but I am USC and of course a tourist visa is much different than K1.

My now wife came through MIA from Peru back in January of this year. She had no problems at all, the immigration officer was very nice. But it did take close to one and a half hours before she walked through those doors. So expect a little wait and don't think the worst when it takes so long all will be ok.....

If I come through Miami (there's a big chance of that happening) I'll be arriving there at 4:30-5:30 am, so I should get through pretty easily timewise, let's see if this early the officers will be grouchy.

I'll be sure to let you all know. That will take a while since this stupid IMBRA ####### set us back so much!

Hi Bill,

My fiancée at the time came in through Miami International Airport on March 10, 2006. It was a piece of cake, it usually is. Depending on how many flights and people coming with Visa’s that is how long she has to wait. It will normally take about an hour after arrival but some VJ members have waited up to four hours. Just be prepared to wait a while and tell her it is hassle free.

We arrived very early in the morning and had no issue at all. Took about 15 minutes or so.

I came thru Miami, and since I had only read bad reviews about it I decided to get a ticket with 5 hours layover in Miami (coming from Venezuela). I wont say that the immigration lines were short or any of the sort. But I guess the person organizing the lines knew something about K1’s or K3’s. I was carrying the X rays, so I guess he flagged me, he came and checked my I-94 for any mistakes, and sent me to the Citizen’s line which was SO much shorter.

The customs officers took my “brown envelope”, opened it, and congratulated me for my wedding, stamped some papers and sent me to secondary inspection. I got a lil’ nervous there, because there was a woman with a child, and a guy, the guy was getting some “lip service” from a couple of officers who didn’t look too happy. The lady and the kid were getting grilled with questions. When an officer signaled me to come closer I almost started crying. But then he started joking, literally joking with me about the wedding, about why was I marrying an American, and so and so. He proceeded to tell me all about the K1 and a lil’ explanation of AOS, stamped my passport, kept the mysterious brown envelope, and wished me good luck. All in all took around 30 mins or so. Not too shabby at all.

With all my nerves, I totally forgot to ask about the EAD stamp. But then again, some people consider it worthless. It isn’t too bad, I guess it depends on your luck, the quantity of people sent to secondary inspection that day, and the emotional state of the officers that day.

It is pretty hassle free coming in through Miami as your POE. The only problem is when a lot of people with visa's come in at the same time.

This may sound like a dumb question, but i'll ask anyhow....I will be flying back with my Fiance. When we get to immigration, is it cool if i wait in line with him? or do i need to stay in the "citizen" lines?

I stayed in line with my fiance in the foreigner line and then was told that we both could have gone to the U.S. citizen line which was much shorter!!!!

I would think, Yes! any point of entry would be ok ...what apply's to Miami should apply everywhere else! We will be traveling through Atlanta!

The lady at Newark airport said that I could have used the US citizens line... Too late...
