Hi all,

Here is my story: I was married for 4 years to a US citizen and became myself a US citizen in Sept last year. Things got sour with my husband for lots of reason (some horrible that I won't mention here) and I was so miserable and had enough that I resigned from my job and decided to file for divorce. In the meantime, I moved all my stuff out of the house went back home to my home country. That was 5 months ago, I haven't been back since. Divorce has been pronounced as well. Now I need to go back to take care of some papers and also want to visit friends. I am actually not quite sure if I'll stay home or come back to live in the US, for now just taking a break from all this. The question is, if I've been out for 5 months and not even sure where I reside anymore, will the immigration officer give me trouble?

Thanks!

M

But do they ask any questions like where do i reside and how long ive been out of the country for?

when we came back to the states after being gone a few years they asked us, but in reality when ur a citizen of the usa it really makes no difference.

they will ask u what u were doing out of the country for that long sometimes

but i would not worry about it ur a citizen of the usa now

You're a US citizen. Nothing to worry about.

Any questions asked are routine.

Legal Resident Alien's have restrictions,

US Citizens do not.

Enjoy your return visit.

If you had been on a Green Card then yes, you would have something to worry about as you clearly were "living" outside the US which could jeapordize your Green Card depending on the IO and how strong your US ties were.

As everyone has said here, you are already a US citizen and so you have nothing to worry about and could continue living there all you want. The only thing to remember is you may have to file US taxes while living outside the US so if you continue to do so you may want to look into if you need to do that. Otherwise there's nothing to worry about as you won't lose your Citizenship that way (unless the foregin nation is at war with the US and you are working in their government or army)...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

NO.. You are a US citizen already.. if you have a passport, the immigration wont ask, it is none of their business.

No worries.

They will ask was it business or pleasure, what countries have you been in since you left the US, what did you do, what did you buy, etc. It is Homeland Security's business. Just in case you were doing any funny business.

Mela what countries did you go to before coming back to the USA?

As long as you didn't visit some terrorist camps or supported such activities you are OK. Tell them that you have moved out of USA for the time being and may not live in USA again - its perfectly legal to do that (some of my friends have already done this - moved out of USA). Good Luck
