NJ is doing it too. 1 day in May and 1 day in June of this year. No plans for anymore, but you never know.

And it's unpaid leave. You stay home, don't get paid.

I thought it was one day in may, one day in june, and the one day a month in 2010? or FY10?

Maybe. I hadn't heard that but it's possible.

Add to that Luz losing her job last week. I just don't know how I can keep my head above water. I have a second job but it does not pay much. Between the two jobs I work 70 hours a week. I don't know how much longer I can keep it up.

Sorry to hear about Luz's job. My wife's contract is up for renewal and rumors are 20% of the staff won't get their renewals for the next school year. Enrollment is way down.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

When my wife told me her American based company was having layoff's, said you don't even have to tell me whom is getting the ax, more than likely, some poor slob working the the mail room or shipping. She said, how did you know? Just typical. As she was the executive assistant to the general manager, I was already familiar with their huge paychecks and expense accounts, with corporations, those are the last to be cut to help on the expenses.

Well, the same thing is happening here with the clinic and hospital talking about layoff's, it's not that business is bad, staff is already being worked to death. 60 of some 12,000 people in the organization already have been laid off with more to come, the patients, losing their jobs are having a hard time in making their co-payments. But I can keep quiet on this, a group of the doctors are speaking out on the way overpaid executives and the careless spending for all this decorative stuff, and are highly against laying off skilled dedicated people that are extremely hard to find.

Not a word about GM going bankrupt on this board, it really broke my heart when I heard on the news that the stock value is now zero. Damn, as I spent years making them rich. The spokesman for them is loaded with BS, claiming they can't switch vehicle manufacturing quick enough to meet consumer demands, since when did those high up guys ever ask the consumer or even the dealers what they want? Even Henry Ford listened to his dealers in the 20's to meet consumer demands.

Well my heart really wasn't broken since my high paying job went to China a couple of years ago, still doing okay with my other skills, that they can't take away from me. We are debt free and have enough money in the bank to go another ten years, so told my wife not to worry about getting laid off, but she does deal directly with patients, so may not have to worry anyway.

Screw it. But not good to hear that my job is making China rich enough to support the nuclear weapons in North Korea.

That sucks. Too bad you can't print your own money to cover the deficit, like the Fed.

Arizona state employees [that is, state of Arizona] have had a mandatory furlough for a few months now. I think it's something like two days a month. My mother just retired from Arizona State, and the furlough is actually affecting her pension because the pension is based on your final salary.

I don't think you can be legally required to show up and work on a furlough day, can you?

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, Gary.

Ours is 3 days/ month and for TWO YEARS. LOL

We have 1/month for two years. Luckily I'm not so desperate that I can't handle what is effectively a 5% cut in pay. the extra day off is ok with me instead of serving the man.

Some of us may be no-good bellyaching librulz, but we're part of that great capitalist private sector y'all republikans are so enamored with.

I haven't had a public sector job since I was a TA in grad-school over 20 years ago.

Likewise, my last gubmint job was the computer lab consultant in college over a decade ago. I am in shock at how many taxpayer-titty sucking parasites are on this site, given how 'small government' the rhetoric can get :)

I miss being a state slacker--those were the days. Of course, AZ pays peanuts.

Now I'm self-employed and have to do quarterly payments and pay the full social security. *fist shake*

 My sister is too but some accountant has convinced her she doesn't have to do any of that. I am still trying to convince her she does, and it's already June.

There's some irony in passing Democrats in unemployment lines and yelling, "Get a freakin' job you losers." Welcome to Obama's America where the only growth industry is government. Hey, it's what you guys voted for so thanks for the cash and job security.
