Hi All,

I have a question on how to filed a I-94 for my wife first, last, and middle name.

Wife Name = Nguyen Thi Ngoc Suong. first name = Ngoc Suong, last name = Nguyen, middle name = Thi.

Visa issue under = Nguyen, Suong Thi Ngoc.

I-94 Arrived Record.

#1 Family Name = Nguyen

#2 First (Given) Name = Suong Thi Ngoc

No middle name to write on.

I was wondering if this will be confuse for US Department of HomeLand Security. Since my wife first name is Ngoc Suong, not Suong. In US, we only write one first name, instead of 2 first name. I am confuse.

Our Dich Vu (Services help), saying this is a correct way to write on I-94, and the VN consulate issues the correct name for my wife. I just want a second opinion. Thank you.

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Vietnam
Timeline

I doubt it will be a problem. I would think USCIS sees this sort of thing with east Asian names all the time. This is especially true with Vietnamese names. More than half the country has the surname "Nguyen", and practically every girl has the middle name "Thi", so they probably see the exact same name on dozens of visas every year.

I would think that some computer database in a government building somewhere has a cross reference between the visa number, the I-94 number, the "A" number, and every other freakin' number the government uses to track these things. Depending on who is processing this information and for what reason, the government tracking numbers are what they go by.

It happened to my wife, so I corrected before submitted to AOS. It was just the way I wanted. You don’t have to follow me, it takes time and time.

This is the way I correct my wife’s name, you can see, it’s a name change. There are few steps

1) We registered the marriage license and picked up right away. We walked to the bank with marriage license, her passport and I-94. I requested to add her name on my checking account. Well, well, no SSN card, the bank didn’t want to do it. I explained to them, I’ve already been applied SSN card, but it took for awhile to get and will update soon (I must pass this stage); we went to another bank and did the same thing again. In the same day, I also applied for SSN card.

2) Three weeks later, we received SSN card, and the 2 statements of the bank, it displayed, my wife is currently reside on this address…..

3) I took SSN card, 2 statements of bank account to the State driver license, and requested to make an Identification card (not driver license or permit at all, just an ID card). Yeah, we made it.

4) I went to the Court, fill-out the name change form, and notarized it. Did the same day, and returned with 30 dollars for the fees.

5) Five days later, we received the official letter name change from the Court.

6) I now filled-out the AOS with the new name, also attached the official letter from Court. And of course, you need to renew her SSN card and ID card with the new name.

It took about 5 weeks to the way we wanted. My wife name in the Visa and I-94: Nguyen, Thi Kim Thy, where it should be Nguyen, KimThy Thi.

And now: Thy Kim Nguyen OR Nguyen, Thy K

Just want to share my story with you!

Thanks for sharing your story. Seem to me there are lot of works need to be done. If my wife name is not correct in the first place. That's why I want to make sure, my wife first name is ngoc suong, not only 1 word suong.

We are CR-1, My wife will received her SSN in 3 weeks once she in the states. I don't want to made all this unneccessary change if her name is correct in the first place.

Base on your first posted, it looks like your wife Green card in full name: Nguyen, Suong Thi Ngoc. Her middile name will be Thi Ngoc. It's hard to correct since the I-94 had issued. The SSN card will be like this Suong Ngoc Thi Nguyen. Anyway, as she is here, everything will just piece of cake. :-).
