In September 1993, the exchange rate had fallen to 1,700,000,000 Dinara to 1 USD, and the highest denomination was the 10,000,000,000 Dinara note which was worth only 6 USD at that time. In October 1993, Yugoslavia reformed the currency in setting 1 Million old Dinara equal to 1 New Dinara. By the end of the year, the exchange rate was 3 Trillion (3,000,000,000, 000) Dinara to 1 USD. The highest denomination at that time in Yugoslavia was the 500,000,000, 000 Dinara note, and it was only worth 16 US Cents, by the end of the year. It probably cost more to print the notes than they were worth.

Most probably she didn't know what it was and thought of it as fake money. I remember as a kid there was this crazy begger old man, who would never except paper money for some reason and if you give him coins you have to give him bigger in size coins, doesn't matter if the smaller in size coin has more value he still will only take bigger size coins. Dare you give him paper notes/money, he will throw that on your face

I actually remember a beggar boy in India seeing a C$100 bill offered the (at that time current, which was single-digit Rs./C$) exchange rate for C$1 (the Canuck currency is printed bilingually with words--and the word for "hundred" in French is "cent"). Edited June 3, 2009 by CherryXS
