Hi all. My wifes interview is soon (San Francisco office) and the form says to bring tax returns unless there were already submitted with the I 485. Since I supplied all that when I did the application will I still need to bring them? Won't the officer have everything I send earlier?

Thank you. Donny.

Had you filed your '08 return when the I-485 was submitted? If no then you definitely should take that, especially since it's (presumably) a Married Filing Jointly return, it's evidence of your relationship as well as supporting the I-864. Even if your '08 return was in the original packet, I'd still take copies just in case. Better to have a hundred sheets of evidence that you never need than to not have one document when asked.

Please fill your timeline so we can better see where you're at :)

The officer should have everything you supllied with the application. "Should" being the operative word. Our appointment letter said to bring my wifes passport, I-94 and EAD and AP if she had them, she didn't. I brought a copy of everything I had ever sent to USCIS or presented at the consulate PLUS lots of "evidence" of a legitimate marriage. I didn't need any of it, I took it all home.

Better to have it and not need it.

I got my interview date too this july 16,09 all the information is gathered except for my husband kids birth certificate, his kids is grown no costudy thing or child support anymore since his done to all of it. Im so confuse coz theres no way we could get all of his kids birth certificate one of them is not even here in colorado. please if u guys have any idea it might be a big help for us.

Anyway this is how it was stated in the list "If your eligibility is based on your marriage, in addition to your spouse coming to the interview with you, bring

"If either you and your spouse were ever married before, all divorce decrees copies "which we have already have a copy" and birth certificate for all children of this marriage, and costudy papers for your children and for your children not living with you. Do you think this is only applied to kids under 18 or what coz it dont make sense to me his oldest daughter is 22 and the youngest is 19 and this youngest girl have kids already and married too so basically all of them are all grown.

Pls pls i need ur help!!!!!

thanks,

emie

Yes, the 2008 return was filed jointly and sent in with the 485. The form also states to bring a copy of EVERY document filed with the application. Are they kidding me? That's basically the entire application all over again.

We brought everything that we had previously submitted, and more. We had saved copies of everything that we had submitted pretty much, and what we didn't have, we re-did. Since we had saved so much, it wasn't a lot of extra work. We had a big huge binder, and three picture books. Our IO asked for nothing but the picture books, but we felt good in knowing that we had everything they could have asked for and more, and we were well prepared, just in case they asked for anything. :)

Good luck!

Thank you all for the advice. If anyone reads this who has dealt with the SF office interview process recently please chime in about what sort of questions will be asked.

emie: His children are emancipated (adults). I see no need for custody documents but let's hear what others have to say.

There are USCIS local reviews at this site, check them out for this office

To the other person asking a question. It is best to post your own question rather than ask one in another thread for bette responses

If his children are adults you do not need to present "custody papers" that do no exist. Birth certificates can be obtained from the state/county they were born in, usually with a phone call and credit card payment. They are public records.

If there is a more recent return, they may ask for it. If you filed '08 since application, take a copy.
