I am Canadian spouse of USC. My daughter (5 yeas) has dual US (through birth abroad) and Canadian (born in Quebec) citizenship (by a different father, not my husband).

Just paid IV bill and doing the DS-230 packge. I need clarification on the following:

1. Question 31A asks persons named in Q. 14/29 who will accompany you to the US. My daughter is listed in 29. Should I clarify that she is US Citizen? I don't want them to start looking for a 2nd non existing application. SHould I clarify on the DS-230 or in my cover letter.

2. IV package says to submit " Original documents, photocopies, and translations of the following documents must be submitted to the National Visa Center for the applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States. I assume I have to include my daughters documents, even though she is dual american/canadian and does not require sponsorship. Should I send the American or the Canadian birth cert/passport or send both??

3. Question 30 asks for all "places" I have lived. I'm not sure what to do here. I lived in the Metro-Toronto area for 5 years and during that time had addresses in "Kipling", "Mississauga", and "Toronto" proper. Is this all just considered TORONTO or do I need to be specific to the actual address. I have the same delima for Montreal.

4. All previous visits to the US. I have this nailed down however, as a child, we travelled numerous times across Canada and entered and exited the US along the way. I'm screwed if I have to provide this so please, tell me I don't! LOL

Thanks everyone! Almost there!!!!

True love knows no borders.

I personally would type in my cover letter that "please note, there is no additional filings for my daughter _____ because she is a legal U.S. citizen. Please see copies of _____ for proof." Then possibly submit a copy of her birth certificate, or anything else you have that is proving it. That's what I would do, others may have alternate suggestions!

Not sure about that one....

I thought it was places you lived for more than 6 months, someone clarify that please...

Nope! :) I had the same problem! If I had to list every visit to school, to friends, for shopping...oh boy, I'd be in trouble! All I put was my 4 years in school, and my one year student working visa. If you ever had a major time there (for instance were on a visitors visa, etc. then you should write that down here.)

I would call the NVC to double check again, but my understanding is that if she is a USC, then you should put N/A as an answer.

2. If she is not in the petition, and she is not sponsored by the USC filing for you, then you should not send originals for your daughter, but regarding Question 1, please verify that info with NVC again

I spoke to 2 different ppl at NVC about this question. Even if you lived at different addresses in Montreal, aka different neighborhoods ("Kipling", "Mississauga", and "Toronto" - are these towns or neighborhoods in Toronto-Metro), as long as they are not different towns or cities, then you place all of them as one place. Same thing for Montreal.

For example:

"Toronto" - 10/2005 to present

"Mississauga" - 05/1999 to 10/2005

"Kipling" - 02/1998 to 05/1999

if they are all neighborhoods of Toronto city then you list all of them as Toronto - 02/1998 to present

Make sure you dont have any gaps in your dates. If you have been in USA for less than 6 months, dont worry about the addresses, you still leave your answer like this.

4. All previous visits to the US. I have this nailed down however, as a child, we travelled numerous times across Canada and entered and exited the US along the way. I'm screwed if I have to provide this so please, tell me I don't! LOL

I think this is correct :)

Good luck Cindy and Greg, and for the spreadsheets, I was wandering what's going on with your case, so I could update them, but now I know ;):) Keep in touch
