Ok...been having some behavioural issues with my 8 (soon 9 year old)

Been asking for some alternative punishments and my co workers have suggested

making him stand in the corner

making him do yard work for neighbours

making him eat unsweetened oatmeal for dinner

standing in the corner arms outstretched with a can of beans in each hand

Can anyone else suggest some legal and effective punishments??

I have been taking him toys and games away, making him stay in his room, to no avail. So will try these, but would love to hear some more!

Hey English; I do this and it works, but I don't hide it, I put it where he can see it and I DEAR him to touch it and bet you seh mi no bruck all 10 a u fingah dem (I tell him just like that). The punishment has to last for a long time, MAKE HIM MISS it toys or games or tv --- at the start of the school year my son was showing out and I took away his DIGS for 3 MONTHS! no problem since and school done next week;

and yes, I'm one of those crazy mothers that will show up at school in her nightgown, with rollers in her hair, bedroom slippers and a belt wrapped around my next...

See that is the same thing I did to my oldest and it worked too. I boxed all his stuff up and put in the middle of the room and dared him to touch it. It does work!!! I told him if he thought about opening that box he’ll be opening doors with his toes for the rest of his life. I don’t plan no games. My oldest has been getting sloppy on his kitchen duty. So this past weekend I took his phone and I have the nerve to talk on it when he's around. I’m quick to tell my friends call me on Da's number... Boy does it get under his skin!! I told him he's too busy talking at night he's not doing a good job on his chores so to help him improve I'll take away his distraction.

I'm really good at making the punishment fit the crime - for instance I heard my son tell an off color joke to his friends. We went home where he had to research what the joke meant (cuz I knew he had no idea, was just repeating) and then write me a full page essay on it. Never hear talk like that again.

Just the other night he was being all rude about a snack - he went to bed without one. I told him his stomach is going to have to teach his mouth to be nice.

My friends will often email me for punishment advice - I'm real creative (but legal and abuse free!!)

When his hair starts growing he gets a fuzzy afro on top and it looks messy, so we tried to make an appt and they lady was gne for 2 weeks. (you don't get many "black hair salons" in Maine... so I tried it for myself. Louis likes beeswax so that is what I use. (bought in DC). I gather the growth and twist it into the locks pulling the hair back in clips or a pony tail as I go. then when I am done he keeps in a tight pony for a couple days with a bandanna over it when he sleeps!

LOL - yuh see mi?!?! That's the trouble we are having in upstate New York.

Creative is always good - When I used to work at an afterschool program, the boys were constantly testing their limits with swearing (10 - 12 year olds) - The director used to make them sit and write "I will not swear...." over and over - they hated her. They started pushing it with me in the van one day, and I didn't react to the swear, just calmly said - that's 10 pieces of garbage you have to pick up when we stop - They were like huh???? I told them if garbage was coming out of their mouths, they had to put it somewhere - so for every swear, that made 10 pieces they needed to clean up. They laughed it off and did it - But they got to the point where they wouldn't swear in front of me - and if they slipped and did, they would punish themselves and pick up the garbage!

OMG!!! My boss just asked me to tell a "likkle" lie. But a lie is a lie..big or small. Someone asked me a question and I should just said...ask my boss...but I said..okay I'll check with my boss. So now I'm in the damn middle. Well, my boss responded to me with "tell her you couldn't reach me".. Oh my...I know I can't lie...I'm just going to tell her to ask my boss herself. That way the samething comes at the end. They will talk it out...

Whew!!!!!

That's a good one Sus! I had to use a little soap on the tongue to wash the dirty words away.

Quanna; you a laugh...I'm DEAD serious...last year (JG might remember), they would not refund the extended warranty on my truck which I sold, so I lost it. I was in the middle of taking out my braids and yes, I went up to the dealership, with my hair looking like "mad mavis", my HOUSE DRESS and some brokedown slippers....I got my refund check in 3 days.

Ha ha.....I would be like give that crazy lady whatever she wants. Just get her out of here quickly!!!!

Well, they did want me out of there right away, but I was tired of running around and having people transfer me all over the place...you see I got what I wanted.

Good morning!!! Time to focus on work this morning.

You're right about that! Since I was out sick on Friday, I had extra messages to take action on & respond to.

Shrewdgal, I was thinking the same thing this weekend. After going to Jamaica very often before & during this visa process, it'll seem weird not going at all for at leat a year once my SO gets here. I told him that & he asked if I'd go without him. I don't think that would be wise.

DaDa, I wish I had seen that House Swap episode! That's one I know I'd enjoy. I'mma have to see if it's on Hulu or something.

Islandwoman, that story had me laughing for a bit. I can only imagine your shocked face at seeing him bald and at knowing that he let a 7 yr old cut his hair!

IrieCat, how did you teach yourself to do that? My SO plans to lock it up, too, and I'd love to save money by doing it myself.

Yes, Exactly Nat!!! I knew it was becoming a part of me, but shew. I wonder if I dont miss it more than I missed home when I was there. I remember my first full summer in JA I was a little homesick, but none at all after that.

I am jealous that you get to watch Rising Stars..but our internet is unreliable pluse we are never home. The only way we get to watch tv at all is DVR :(

Island, my hubby wont let me TOUCH his hair. nope.....

I LOVE MY HUSBAND!!!!!!!!!!!
