So it boils down to making the mother/father who didn't pay face a punshiment. Okay fine. But the whole objective of supporting the child financially is thrown out the window. I'm so not saying there shouldn't be any punishment. But I'm looking at more of the objective..here. The single mother/father needs the financial help too.

Question: After the child reaches 18 yrs is back child support still required?

YES

Okay...so their credit is jacked up until they pay.

KK, you can't get a passport if you are in arrears for childsupport. Most states cannot require a father to help pay for college for their children, so when alot of these kids turn 18, the father stops paying and the mother have to responsibility alone in aiding their child with college loans and tutions. That's why saome states are making the rquirement of child support until the child turns 21 years of age.

I agree...and should provide health coverage until they are 21.

I like this enforcement:

Financial Institution Data Match (FIDM)

States are required to identify and garnish, if appropriate, assets of parents owing past-due child support through a database match with financial institutions.

Straight clear out your back account. lol

I think so but once they reach 18 doesnt the money go directly to the child? Also if the child goes to school doesnt the parent have to continue paying until 21??

No, the money does not go to the child, the school thing is done different by each state. Most states are raising the age limit to 21 to try to accomodate the college thing.

KK, they already do that, and most do not have bank accounts.

My problem with the support enforcement is multi-fold -

First, I fully believe that if you have a child, you need to support it - But, the guidelines that are set out are often applied to strictly, and they tar everyone with the same brush - it is a system that needs to be fixed -

Second, if the custodial parent is receiving state assistance, and any child support is collected - the state pays themselves back FIRST, then sends any leftover money to the custodial parent - for too many parents, the state assistance is barely enough to make it - I just have an issue with that, the money should go to the child. I used to do a lot of pro bono work with low income - one of the first questions we always had to ask was if they were getting CS - The answer was usually no - Some people I worked with would insist that the woman file for support. However, if you dug deeper, you found that the father bought diapers, clothes, formula,.... so even though there wasn't a formal support order, it was better for the woman not to file - if she asked for child support, the father would probably stop doing this - and the state would see the money, not her -

SUS, those items do not count toward the financial support of the child, the father would have been better off, giving the money to the mother in a MO, he would have been able to say he had support the child.

ROX...I had my husband send his police certificate via Fedex. It can w/ 2 stapled together. Do I turn both copies in to NVC, or do I just send in one and keep the other?

Only send in one copy, you will need the other for the interview.

I am not saying that they count towards the support - But, by the father buying them, it is less money that the mother has to spend on them - If he gets a support order put in, the money he pays to the support order will eat up the money he would have spent on those items - Then the state will pay themselves back - and the mother and child still won't see the money - or have the items being bought.

I am not saying it's a perfect situation - But sometimes there are circumstances where state ordered support is not the best thing.

Sorry DaDa...but this whole time I thought you lived in a cool city like Philly!!!

Just threw me off when you mentioned Pittsburgh. That explains the reason you want to move.

I guess I'm kinding speaking before I have even had a chance to go to Pittsburgh. I'll be there for one day/night in September.

Girl if I lived in Philly I would have been hooked up with Philly and Regal by now. No girl I'm stuck in Pittsburgh and looking for way out. The city thinks were coming back with the new casino and such being built and our economy and job market are doing pretty good but its the whole city as a whole. I think I have just grew tired of it and I want out!!! I want more for my kids and I am so sick of the snow!!!

Married Lovers came out June of 2008. So, I am going to assume she still is.

I might have to get it for old times sake..

u are still getting snow down there

No!!! the snow has stoped but yesterday it was cold...

It's cold as heck here too DaDa

I agree Kimmy, and believe me - I have helped people dig up dirt on a dead beat, and would do it again in a heart beat - But I think that sometimes within the system we get so caught up in who gets what / pays what that we forget what's important - The child.

Trust me, I know first hand cause I had a dead beat that I never saw A PENNY from

this is rather ridiculous IMO...this spouse had NOTHING to do with the making of this child..how can u hold him/her responsible for this...the children are not property..if someone does this or would liek it done..i call it rather bitter..
