KK, by the time the judge can set all of this in motion, the child will be 18 years of age.... listen its not that easy to get childsupport when the parent is not willing to pay.

Or in jail...or can't drive to work...

KK, when your child is mad because they couldn't go on a school trip with the rest of their classmates, you wouldn't care if the other irresponsible don't have a driver license, that child s pain is something you will have to deal with. He is no where around, to see or feel that childs pain.

So it boils down to making the mother/father who didn't pay face a punshiment. Okay fine. But the whole objective of supporting the child financially is thrown out the window. I'm so not saying there shouldn't be any punishment. But I'm looking at more of the objective..here. The single mother/father needs the financial help too.

Question: After the child reaches 18 yrs is back child support still required?

KK, you should take a visit down to the childsupport court and hear some of the stupid reasons that are given why he/she has not paid their child support. Then I think you will see that logic and sensability doesn't work in all cases.

KK, you can't get a passport if you are in arrears for childsupport. Most states cannot require a father to help pay for college for their children, so when alot of these kids turn 18, the father stops paying and the mother have to responsibility alone in aiding their child with college loans and tutions. That's why saome states are making the rquirement of child support until the child turns 21 years of age.

Nope..not something I'm interested in doing.

Stupid reason or not...I think jail and revoking of drivers license is a bit much.

Now..if they lie in court..then yes...that is grounds for jail. You can't lie in court..that's just wrong.

And they can't travel abroad if they don't pay.

I agree here... It is a shame when sometimes you can’t do for your child or they have to miss out on something and you know if you just had a little help everything would be so much better. Its not fair when your struggling to pay your bills and the absent parent is out living there life in there nice one bedroom apt paying only there bills and feeding only themselves when your trying to make ends meat to feed you and your kids. And then your stuck doing all the extra sport activates, daycare bills so you can continue to work, summer camps, hair cut or hair appts and then you can’t go anywhere because you always need a sitter when the other parent is just skipping down the street like its a beautiful day in the neighborhood. No its not fair and at times like this what ever the absent parent gets GOOD FOR THEM!

Now in Sus's example that is unfair toa parent who was trying and I have a bleeding heart for them so often those cases are very rare.

I think so but once they reach 18 doesnt the money go directly to the child? Also if the child goes to school doesnt the parent have to continue paying until 21??

Not paying is lying in curt, because they have agreed to pay the set amount on a monthly basis and they are not doing it. So what's the difference?
