I have the impression that the Jamaica school system is similar to the Nigerian one. Your performance in elementary school (possibly including a test) determine which high schools you qualify for. Your performance in high school (possibly including a test) determine which universities you can attend and what you can major in.

Okay, so Kimmy are these High schools like what we call our Magnet schools here in the states. Is special funds given to these high school so they can offer better academic programs to their students?

heck no...these are prestegious schools..cost u a very pretty penny..but it paves the way for most..u have students who dunce like bat an b/c dem family know smaddy inna one school dem get dem transfered..

Kimmy, are you telling me this about the JA High School right. So our goal is to get our children thru open arms to score high enough so they can attend one of these schools.

when ur about to finish HS in JA u take CXCs if that's what they still call them..depending on how many u pass determines for some a good job and or getting into UWI or one of those Universities

I had two books arrive in the mail today! Mating Rituals of the North American WASP and Such a Pretty Fat.

These days, though, I spend so much time on VJ that I'm not doing as much offline reading. That may be about to change, as both of these look captivating.

I got Such a Pretty Fat too. Gonna start reading it this weekend. Let me know if you like it.

I loved that book - I read ALOT - and that was honestly one of the few that had me laughing out loud - of course, people were looking at me like I was crazy, lol

U know i never got into reading..not that i don't read very well...I find myself skipping to the end of the book to find out what happens..

I think that is classfied as a mental disorder of some kind...

my step daughter called me from j.a. today just bawling and i'm like what wrong now, she got into such and such high school, of course me up here and was totally clueless as to why she was upset, because she got into a high school right? wrong??? the grandmother gets on the phone and says the kids fight a lot at that high school but mi don't understand cause mr jengs was sending down money for her to go to saturday school. and she was always studying when I call *sigh*

LOL, No - It's Big Beautiful Women - My cousin is heavy, and she likes to go to them - The one last weekend was lame, but I have been to some and had so much fun - The DJ is usually good, no one really bothers me (they call me Kate Moss, lol) and I can dance and have a good time without fighting off annoying men -

my friend says they are sooo fun.. i would go if i made my way up north, might not get much love i guess, but she said they know how to PARTY

They definitely know how to party - Although most of the ones here are held in a hotel, so it's basically a HUGE hookup fest, lol - There is one in NYC called Goddesses that I love - they have a back room that plays reggae and soca all night

Jengles, yes the GSAT results came out today, and there have been alot of bawling..... My MIL, just said to me you just don't understand...you only been here a short time. I was like wow, make me understand, so I can help.

I have read ALOT from when I was little - so much that I trashed my eyes reading by flashlight in the dark, lol- When I first read a book by this author, I thought how annoying it would be bc she has footnotes - But her footnotes are little bitchy comments about what she's writing about on that page, and it gets to the point that you are looking at the footnotes first!

My husband neice failed, but his nephew passed, so the whole YARD is upset. Me don't know what to think...

Me: The freaking day after I sent in my petition I did a google search and found Visajourney.com. And Shemmy sent me an email introducing me to the yardie thread.

I was on visa journey i was getting all the form and i got a pm from you and a comment from forever young telling me to check out the yardie thread
