Don't flame me too much but... all these co-sponsers?

I sort of agree with the OP.

If you don't make enough to support a family, then perhaps you should concentrate on making enough (saving, education for a better job, etc...) before you leap into marriage.

The sad reality is that money is needed to actually live. Depending on how much you have, you will either live comfortable, or not. So people should take a hard look at their resources prior to getting into a relationship.

Yes, yes - love conquers all, but how many cases have you seen where the couple break up because they can't afford to live?

The other thing that bothers me is when I see post after post of people stating they are going to "wait" for money to file for the AOS. I feel they should of saved the money for that purpose prior to the person coming over.

AOS is very important, and should not be delayed. Plus it's now like you can't find out how much this whole thing is going to cost...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Brother Bobby --- it is STILL none of our damn business.

Notice - I didn't point at anyone - just saying my opinion on the subject at hand. Yes - everyone makes their own bed...

How many posts have you answered where the people couldn't meet the requirements?

A little forethought by these individuals would of saved them a lot of heartache

You have to partially agree with the OP, though I don't agree with his choice of words the idea of making sure you can take care of a family before having a family is sound advice no matter where the bride and groom are from. I do not believe money is the gauge on the success of your life.

You know what, if you don't have mountains of credit card debt, a $20,000+ car, and reasonable rent/house payment you can live quite well on the 'poverty' level.

I have a career that I really enjoy, but it doesn't pay like a big-time CEO, but I do fine, but someone has to do the lower paying work or how would we get by?

I am in the music business and have been for almost 30 years, I have had experiences many people would kill for and have seen a lot places in the US and Canada and gotten paid for it.

Perhaps the only thing I really worry about is health care, but a major illness can take everything from even a 'well-off' family.

Did I make a decision to marry someone from out of the country, no, but sometimes life will hand us things outside our normal circle.

While everyone makes their own bed, not everyone needs or wants 600 thread count egyptian cotton.

I am absolutely sure that it is entirely possible, in the United States, to live with 125% of the poverty level in income.

If you read what the OP said, nowhere did he say you must be rolling around in a swimming pool full of gold coins. He was just saying that if you can't meet the minimum requirement, which IMO is not EXTREMELY difficult to meet for a family of 2 or even 3, maybe think about it some more. Of course this could just be my location, maybe its easier to earn that money here or something.

For example I meet the requirement with a (very) entry level salary, if you are "middle aged" which Perry was talking about for some reason, and you don't even make as much as I do, you probably cant even have a peanut butter sandwich for dinner, letalone 2 peanut butter sandwcihes (one for you, one for wife/husband)

I understand what the OP means but you can't judge all the middle aged that need a co-sponsor because you don't know what's up with their life.

I guess... maybe it is just me... but if you are some middle aged guy who is still not making 125% of the poverty line... maybe you should concentrate your life efforts more on improving you life's postiion rather then finding a bride from a foreign country.

Well love happens when you least expect it. I never thought I would fall in love with a guy I first met online and lived in another country... Ever... But this is unfair I think to young couples who don't make much money yet. I haven't finished college, I actually stopped going to college for a while to live with my mom and help her since she is ill. (But I want to go back to college) There is no way I make enough to sponsor my fiance on my own. I work at a minimum wage job. My mom gets a disability check every month, and if she was my co-sponsor, with both of our incomes together, we would meet the deadline. But I wonder if the USCIS will not accept my mom's income because it's a disability check? Thinking about this is making me sick... I love my fiance with all my heart, and I miss him so much... I'm so afraid for some reason the USCIS wont accept that.

I don't understand why the USCIS only accepts sponsor help from Americans. My fiance's family is just better off then my family in general. My fiance said if for any reason we were struggling and needed money, his family would send us money. And my my fiance is planning to save up a lot of money before moving, so he would have enough to support himself in the U.S. until he gets his green card. It bugs me that none of this counts...
