Poprocks, at least you looked into it! If she said you don't then you're probably good to go. I think a lot of people are just to lazy to go down to the post office and investigate. I will probably be one of those people :P

I've been getting junk mail and wedding mail at my fiance's house for almost a year now so I think I'm just fine. But, given the recommendations, I'll put my name inside the mailbox where he can see it just for some peace of mind. If I find I'm not getting things then I'll go look into it. There's nothing more frustrating then trying to work with people who just look at you like you're an idiot...

There are at least two people in the Canada forum that had to register at their post office as their mail kept getting returned to sender.

MrsCat was one, can't think of who the other person was.

Me too. I had to register, all of my mail got returned to sender. Once I went in the local PO with my lease, she was basically like "Duh, of course you have to register" after that day, I got all my mail. Here's another example of inconsistency with govt organizations

We have cards on the inside of our mailbox here at our apartment complex. They put our last name on the card when we moved in, and I added my maiden name to make sure. Not all places do this, but it may be a good idea like E suggested.

All the states are so different, it was good of you to look into it

I was one of the people told to register at the post office - told by the SSN office lady as a matter of fact so that I am an official recipient at that address. I think it mostly had to do with receiving official Gov't mail so they can match names or something.

I did it, it was one of their standard little forms they have lying out available - frankly I would rather do it and have peace of mind then not and wonder if I missed something - why take the chance when it's like $7 you know? That was my reasoning.

of course I had Canada Post forward my mail from Canada to the US - but this wasn't related to what the USPO does

I think it's a crock because we get mail for former residents all the time :)

I didn't have to register - had no problems with USPS - but I did have a problem with Canada Post. I filed a change of address and they forwarded the mail for one week - and then stopped for 3 weeks! My next door neighbour collected the mail for me and sent it to me which is how I found out. I contacted Canada Post and they apologized, then gave me a rebate on the fee I paid to allow for the month I didn't get mail forwarded.

I'm glad we don't have to do the registering thing - my brother and a friend use our address as a delivery address for US purchases they make on Ebay when the seller won't deliver to Canada. Things get delivered here and then I forward them to Canada. The interesting thing is I also get junk mail now in both of their names!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yup I know, but when you have to register one place, put your name in your mail box in another - obviously all of the employees or offices don't have exact specifications. That's all I was suggesting :)
