Ok, I have hit the wall with every flipping thing I have tried to do since I got here!!!!

I just left the post office...I sat there with this woman for 10 min, she said I did not have the register, and she had no idea what I was talking about. I searched all their forms they had out, nothing to register.

She said just forward Canadian mail to US address and you are good to go!?

Help????? She said I'll get my mail???

I think you'll be fine. Bauser, another member just moved and didn't register and he got his SSN in the mail just fine.

I think it's area specific and if your post office said you didn't have to, then I don't think you do.

Register to receive mail? I have been using my address in the USA for mail for over three years, was I supposed to register? Wow, I never heard of that. I hope that things start lightening up for you in the USA, it is overwhelming all that we have to go through to be with those that we love.

There are at least two people in the Canada forum that had to register at their post office as their mail kept getting returned to sender.

MrsCat was one, can't think of who the other person was.

I think why some ppl may have to register to get their mail, is ppl that lived there previously went to the post office to stop getting other ppl's mail. I was told I could go stop the mail that we keep getting from someone who lived here. Maybe once thats done you only get mail for the names at that address.

Just my thoughts

Danielle

Laura did and so did Jill.

I think it must be area specific.

Bauser also recently moved to Queens and he didn't have to and is receiving his mail just fine.

Seems to be a crapshoot, kind of like a lot of things in this process, LOL.

there is no "registration" for us mail, however, it may not be a bad idea to let the regular postman/woman that delivers your mail know about the new name.

this, just let the postmaster know your last name. usually they don't care, i know mine didn't. but i know the people at social security say let them know. but again, i didn't bother to do that, since my husband was already getting some mail with his name on it from the visa process. I also notice that sometimes the mail person puts a sticky note in your mailbox with the last names that get delivered to there. probably only if they screw up alot or in those multiple boxes ones lolz.

Put your last names Maiden & married if applicable on the INSIDE of your mailbox on on the door of your apt.. that will help the postman.. without it.. who knows where it will go :)

I introduced myself to our mailman early on so I've never had any mail get returned to sender. Putting both names inthe mailbox is good sound advice too.

Just to be extra safe for my SSN and all my USCIS stuff I listed my address as: MYSELF, C/O MY HUSBAND, OUR ADDRESS. That was suggested to me by the clerk at the SSA office when she processed my SSN apllication.

That would be us sister. they were actually holding our mail for about 2 weeks until we went in to sign up.
