Why MORE Name Hit Checks AFTER Interviews?

Hi all, just a general AP question I'd like your thoughts about.

I know that backround/name security checks start at the very beginning when we send in our initial petitions (I-130) and throughout the entire USCIS & NVC process................ so I don't understand why, if either party (benef. or pet.) is going to get a name hit, why it would only show up the first time on the day of the interview, as a surprise, and not show up all of the months and months they were doing the name checks before the interview date.

I've read about the various backround checks performed at each stage, but I can't remember if consulates only do a certain type of name check on the day of the interview, that they don't do during USCIS and NVC stage.

The only thing I can think of, is that on the day of interviews, when the benef. has their fingerprints taken, maybe then a name hit might occur. But would that happen to SO MANY people in every consulate worldwide, causing so many people long AP waits AFTER the interview?

Anyway, just something I keep wondering about, in preparing for the worst just in case (mine is a ME/NA case). Love to hear your feedback.

Have a nice week :star:

Why are you assuming it is a "name hit check"? It is "additional processing". They will do as much of it as they feel necessary

The main reason my question was focused on a name hit is because i recently read a post where a couple from the Morrocan consulate was approved after the interview and told that the husband can pick up his passport and visa in 6 days............the wife at the interview asked the CO if he could get the visa sooner than 6 days so her husband can travel back with her in 3 days............the CO said something like

"this is your lucky day, no name hits today, OK, come tomorrow to pick up the visa" .

This is why I asked specifically about name hits..........

It sounds like the investigations for the Moroccan husband were already completed by the time his visa was approved, and the only thing remaining was a final check of his name against the latest database. His name didn't "hit", so they were able to issue his visa without delay.

How much time is spent in AP depends on how much investigation is required, and which agencies are involved. Different aspects of each case can trigger different kinds of investigations. Some investigations can run concurrently, meaning the visa application process can continue while the investigation is being done. Some investigations can stop the visa application process dead in it's tracks pending the outcome of the investigation. Some cases make it all the way to the visa approval stage before a concurrent investigation is completed, resulting in the visa being approved, but the case remaining in AP afterward until the investigation is completed. Same thing can happen if information discovered at the interview triggers a new investigation. Each case is unique.

There's also the human factor. A person who used to work as a USCIS adjudicator posted on this forum once that they would sometimes put difficult petitions aside and work on the easier ones first.

I have a suspicion that the focus BEFORE the interview is mainly on the USC. And AFTER the interview the work Cairo's work focuses on the Beneficiary.

Before the interview, which is typically scheduled fairly quickly after they recieve the completed packet #3, they don't have the Beneficiaries finger prints, and maybe they don't even spend much time on the info submitted in Packet #3, thinking they may avoid all of that by simply finding a flaw at the interview stage, and will be relieved of the work of going through all the rest of the stuff...

Just my guess...
