I am a little disappointed in the response I got from the consulate. I posted an email request for making sure my wife, the beneficiary's mailing address was accurate, since she does not receive china post at her home, but at her school where she works, and after 5 days ( of the standard 5-7 day response) I got an answer that was generic and didn't even answer my question! My question was just "this is the mailing address in this case". I know case is not physically present but woe form letter city sucks

Thank you for your email, our records indicate that we have not yet received your xxxxx's physical file. The case was electronically loaded by the National Visa Center (NVC). It is likely that the file is still in transit from the NVC. In general, the transmission of an approved petition from the NVC to the Consulate can take up to 3 to 4 months. Which is largely due to unavoidable delays in clearing official

documents at Chinese customs. Once we receive the physical file we will start processing and schedule her for an interview after the processing is completed. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions.

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

chinese customs is famous for delaying document importation. the official story is that they are concerned that subversive material is coming in. the internet and DVD writers have made subversive stuff available in every chinese corner DVD shop that you would do hard time for in America.

the truth is that customs officers like to have time to pilfer and accept bribes. bribes are 75% of their salary. selling off stuff they pilfer is 20% of their salary. the remaining 5% is paid in Rmb.

While all that may be true it has nothing to do with any "customs delay" on case files going to GUZ from NVC. The Consulate simply uses the DHL customs warehouse as storage until they are ready to accept the packages. The delays in delivery are completely "avoidable" but the delay in Consulate processing is due to backlog. It really doesn't matter whether the packages sit in a customs warehouse or a storage room. They'll work them when they get to them.

After getting pack 3 may 22nd and mailed back next day. the 23rd I email consulate and ask why no pack 4 yet

they answered me same day to tell me to wait 3 months and check back with them.

Now my visa to china expires sept. 26th and that puts me in a worry to see which one comes first now.

Then on top of that Chiunese Government closed down google web site yesterday I lost all over 3600 emails

with all contacts some very important documente pictures and web site inforemation. So now I am using yahoo for home page and it is so slow it makes you want to just turn off computer and go drink a beer and forget it.

If you returned packet 3 May 22, expect to hear about an interview in August. You should see the packet 4 any day now. They don't care when you have to leave. Your are not required at the interview or even allowed on the same floor of the building. I know it would be nice to come back to the USA together but that is not a concern for the Consulate.
