I had 2 CR-2 children so could not check the box.

When we went the lady took the older ones application and applied right there it was in the mailbox in about a week. The little had to wait about 2 weeks as she held his so the numbers were not to close togehter.

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

It took me much longer than I thought.

We went the office and they said they had to check with homeland security and wait 4 weeks. about 5 weeks passed and nothing. I contacted them to ask to hurry because I needed it to get married! They allowed me to visit them and get just the number while the card arrived maybe a week after my second visit there. The card was restricted with work authorization of course. After a wedding I wanted to get an ID and a bank account so I went there again to change my name on the card. I got it relatively soon at that time. I got the work authorization but I went there after I got he green card to ask for a new- non-restricted-card and I have to go again in a few weeks because they didn't have my green card in the system yet!!! So those were my pilgrimages to the SS office....I have at least one more trip :-)

I was wondering.....has anyone had a problem receiving their social security card? My husband applied for his on 5/21/09. We never received it. We called in July and they said it was mailed on 6/10/2009. We asked that they send another one and after verifying the address (which was correct), they said they would send another one. That was early July. We called again today (now early August!!!) and they said it was mailed 3 weeks ago. Never received that one either. At this point I'm so frustrated. He asked if he could order another and they said yes but he could only have three per year. And this 3rd would be the last they could send for the year. He asked how can this count as my third as he's never received the 1st or 2nd one they said were sent. Then he asked if he ordered a third, could it be sent to a local office where he could pick it up or sent federal express and they said no. So how are we supposed to get the card? It would be crazy to ask to send a third card because I'm sure this 3rd card would have the same fate as the first two they say they sent. This is also the same address that my husband received his work permit and green card, no problems there (our home address that I've lived at the last 3 years). Has anyone else had this happen?

Thank you for any information offered.

I don't know if this is possible, but see if you could get a proof of mailing to insure the cards were sent to the correct address. Another option is to have your mail held at the post office until the card arrives, to make sure no one is stealing the cards. I would be a little nervous that someone might be walking around with my card. There is always our worthless members of Congress. Perhaps someone in their offices could help you with your issue.

I checked the box on DS-230, but went to apply for the number in person at a local SSA office 5 days after my entry to the US. It took about 10 days until I received the card in the mail if I remember it right.

I would recommend getting an SSN in ANY office in the country except the Manhattan one on the east side.

She will have to re-apply once she gets her green card (probably 6+ months after POE).

From the actual application following her GC approval it took roughly 2 weeks,

but if I was to count from when she initially applied for it (soon after POE), the

answer would have been "don't even ask!"

I had ticked the box on the DS-230. After waiting a month we finally went into the Social Security office and applied. I received it a fortnight later.
