Epstein: 'Diversity Can Be Good In Moderation' As Long As 'Trends Do Not Overwhelm The Dominant Culture'

(this is the person who recently was found guilty of a hate crime)

Earlier this year, a New York Times editorial blasted Marcus Epstein for a report he authored as executive director of The American Cause, arguing that Republicans ought to embrace anti-immigration extremism if they still dream of an eventual renaissance.

In the course of their digging, the Times editors came across an online archive of Epstein's writings which contain gems like:

"Diversity can be good in moderation -- if what is being brought in is desirable. Most Americans don't mind a little ethnic food, some Asian math whizzes, or a few Mariachi dancers -- as long as these trends do not overwhelm the dominant culture."

There's much, much more, if you care to browse.

Here, for instance, is a long defense of the infamous Ron Paul Letters, complete with a sideways defense of the Los Angeles police officers who pummeled Rodney King. And here is a remembrance for paleocon Sam Francis who once said whites must "reassert our identity and our solidarity, and we must do so in explicitly racial terms through the articulation of a racial consciousness as whites . . . . The civilization that we as whites created in Europe and America could not have developed apart from the genetic endowments of the creating people, nor is there any reason to believe that the civilization can be successfully transmitted to a different people." And here is a piece supposedly slaying the "Myths of Martin Luther King"

Epstein took issue with the Times op-ed for attributing "white supremacist" views to him and insisted that their cries of racism were off base. Two years before that, he drunkenly karate chopped a pedestrian in Georgetown and called her a "***."

He now works for both Tom Tancredo's Team America PAC and Pat and Bay Buchanan's The American Cause, each of which have called Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist. On his Facebook page Epstein lists Taki's Magazine as one of his favorite publications. It's owned by Taki Theodoracopulos--a self-described anti-semite.

Of course he does, where else would a racist work but for other racists?

The crazy thing is - his mother is Korean and his father is Jewish...which the hate groups play up as evidence that he can't be a racist.

They're terrorists, Steven. That's what terrorists like Tancredo and other members of his party do - they lie and mislead.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

What is the "dominant culture" in this country?

Whatever it may be (if even it exists) "culture" isn't a static concept - its fluid and organic. Always has been.

stoopid boy.

the dominant culture is WASP. up until the late 70's WASP was about 60% of the population. now, we are down to less than 50%, mostly due to the influx of illegal mexicans and the increased immigration from asia/india, but still the dominant culture. baptists are included under the WASP umbrella. educated catholics are nearly the same as WASP, so that brings the number up about another 10 points.

That didn't really answer the (largely rhetorical) question.

Culture is an organic concept - it changes over time as new influences impact on it. The idea that "culture" is somehow fixed and static (in such a way to suggest that it can be "overwhelmed") is patently false.

Stir the pot? You guess wrong Mr Shooter.

Just trying to address a factually inaccurate statement that's being used to justify the nativist cryto-fascist garbage that you and this Epstein fellow are promoting.

you and i will have to dissagree on the factual accuracy of the statement in question, based upon our individual experience and observation (or delusion). what we will not have to dissagree on is that you can see upside down police cars burning in france every friday night (usually about 350 cars per night, nationwide), and that you're welcome to enjoy the display first hand, if you like.

Whatever you want to define as culture in this country has been in constant evolution. Even the Native Americans - their way of life was greatly altered by the introduction of the horse by the Spaniards. Any cultural dominance you can claim is whatever is generally embraced by the public which is fluid. Whether it is decorating a tree in December or dressing up in costumes in late October. There is assimilation as well as ever changing customs and practices. Those who fear such changes are displaying xenophobia.
