Hi All,

My wife is from Gujarat, India.

Here is the situation: My wife just received her passport last Saturday, and tomorrow she will be going to get her Regional PCC from Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. As NVC's requirements she don't require Local PCC as her passport in less than 6 month old.

But the situation is like everyone there ( I mean all the agents and other people whose passport were older than 6 months) are telling her that for her to even get regional PCC from Ahmadabad Passport office she will require district PCC. And my understanding according to NVC is that she should be fine by just showing the passport.

Anybody here in the same situation as I am please advice to me, as passport office has already delayed her passport which took 3 months to come. and my processing at NVC is on hold for DS-230 since last month 23rd.

DesiDon, here is what I found for you:

Police Records

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

* All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

* Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

* Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

* Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

* Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

Prison Records

Available. A person who has been incarcerated may obtain a prison record from the State Inspector General of Police, or from the Police authorities of Mumbai, Kolkata, or Chennai, or from the Superintendent of the jail in which the sentence was served.

Thanks for a Quick reply, I appreciate it.

But here my concern is that even though NVC does not require local PCC but for my wife to go and get her PCC from Regional Passport Office she requires Local Cleareance Certificate ( I am not saying this but the people around her and the Agents are telling her) to proceede further. I just wanted to find out from anybody else in this situation.

DesiDon - Since your wife has just received her passport, she should be able to receive the passport PCC without having to get the district PCCs as the district PCCs were just done to get her passport. I suggest she go to the Ahmedabad passport office since her passport was just issued and try to apply for the Passport PCC. If that fails, she will have to go through the district PCC process even though its not required by NVC.

You should also search in the Asia South forum as there are a lot of posts about the Passport PCC from the Ahmedabad Passport Office.

Good Luck!!

Here are the steps (based on my and other VJ member's experience) if you have to get PCC from Ahmedabad Passport Office

1) Females are required to change their maiden name and add their husbands name in Passport. You can request this in TATKAL and get this done in 7 to 10 business days.

2) You need RFE requesting PCC from Passport office or Interview letter to get PCC from Ahmedabad passport office. So don't waste your time trying to get one before interview.

3) You will have to show PCC from DSP's office at the Ahmedabad passport office PCC. So get PCC from DSP's office and send a copy of it with your IV package. Keep original with you since you will need it to show it at Passport office.

4) State in your cover letter that Copy of Local PCC is included and original will be shown during interview. Also state that PCC from Passport office will be shown during the interview.

Thanks, I did wut you mentioned... I just asked my wife to go and take a shot at it.

I totally agree with psp312, my wife recently tried to get her PCC and was required all of the above mentioned documents.

I agree with you guys as well.. and many others also told me that.. so one more questions for you that; She leaves in Baroda district.. so if asked does she require PCC from District office or Taluka office.

Please Advice!!!

Thanks buddy,

Yes she came back from A'Bad with the same instruction you got. Well how long did it took you to get your Local PCC and by Local PCC means she leaves in Shinor taluka.. so should she take PCC from there and then goto to District office or she should get it from District Baroda local. Well we are talking to agent as well but I am little confused.
