Difficulty with Phone Numbers for Juarez

Has anyone had difficulty with dialing either the 800 number or the 900 number (from the U.S. side that is, not the Mexico lines) for visa inquiries at the Juarez consulate? I've tried to call both of these numbers from 2 cell phones and 2 land lines. The 800 number results in "call cannot be completed" message and the 900 number comes up with a message about restricted service. I'm assuming cell phones cannot be billed for 900 number dialing but why the 800 number is not going through is beyond me. I'm definitely dialing the correct numbers and calling from the Mexico side is not going to help because both my fiancee and I only have cell phones.

On a personal note, I find it incredibly irritating that I'm required to be charged to call my own countries embassy just for information. I thought being a good taxpayer would entitle me to at least that much. Hmmpph.

I spent all of yesterday trying to call both numbers. I wouldn't mind paying really, what bothers me is when there is no way to contact them. It also bothers me that an officer in the US Army can't get a tourist visa to see his fiance, because they think his fiance will not return to Mexico. Then he is sent away for 15 months. And now that he wants to call the consulate and the numbers don't work.

The main general number does not ring through to an attendant either. I tried it a few times today. You get the usual generic recorded information and "for this, push that" options and then it tells you that an attendant is not available and you are disconnected. Incredibly frustrating. I contacted my lawyer to see if he can get through but I doubt that.

Take care, wherever you're stationed. And we appreciate your service.

This is extremely frustrating....I finally gave up on Juarez and contacted the embassy in DF by email...it took a couple days, but i got some of the answers i needed. :content:

I got the correct number a little while back. First, I called the U.S. State Department and the person I spoke with there was completely useless. I actually wound up getting the correct number from someone in the NVC.

From outside Mexico: +52-477-788-7070. You'll need a credit card. The charge is $7.
