What does he need to do it? What do I need? Anybody willing to help me try Skype tonight? :help:

What about Claro 3G? He keeps asking if he can see me if he gets Claro 3G?

What else do ya'll use to see your SO?

Maybe we can come up with more things for the survival thread

Ok the song has nothing to do with my situation, but every time I think "Survive" I think of that song :D

Skype is a way to talk over the computer - he needs to have a computer with internet access to Skype.

Claro is similar to Digicel

We deal with emails, text, last trip I brought DJ a blackberry (used to belong to the attorney who got fired  ) so now email and chat are easier -

Is Skype a program he would have to install?

Yup, he would have to download skype = http://www.skype.com/

Not sure about the netbook = and internet depends on who near him might have wifi - DJ has a laptop, but there is no wifi where he lives - he has to go down to the beach and lurk near a hotel to snag it - that's why the blackberry is easier -

I got Steven a netbook. It was $299 at the time, but now the price has gone down on that same one (Acer Aspire One) to $279 if you catch a good deal online. I bought it at newegg.com, so there was no tax or shipping charge AND I got a 16gb USB drive ($30 value) with the purchase, so it was a great deal.

I downloaded Skype on it and setup an account for him (I already had it on my computer).

He goes to this restaurant with internet access, buys a beer, and video chats with me there.

Skype does recommend that you use it with a broadband internet connection, so no dial-up.

If you have Skype, I can test it with you tonight after 9 central time or some other evening this week. PM me.

Oh yeah. You can also do video chat with Yahoo Messenger, as Sus indicated. I'm not sure if that has audio, though.

If you do get him a Netbook, I highly recommend a headset with a microphone, so that your calls can be more private.

Nat thank you so much!! :star:

I was wondering if skype will work on the netbooks.... HP has a new one out for $199

I will download Skype on my laptop tonight and send you a PM...

I catch on pretty quick, so I should not be too much of a headache for you

I wonder if Claro provides USB modems with enough bandwith hope.gif

I just don't see him hanging out at the wi-fi spots much...

I saw that HP deal - but that price seems to only be if you sign up for a 2 year verizon contract - I was looking at Netbooks, figuring it would be easier with school rather than lugging my laptop around.
