My fiancee will be making her POE early July. It seems that airfare has sky-rocketed for the summer and we're looking at other options including POE at some place other then Chicago where I live.

One of the options is for her to use my frequent flier miles on Delta and fly into Atlanta and then connect to Chicago. I have enough miles where I can fly to ATL to meet her and return home with her.

So here are my questions.

If I arrive about the same time that she does, can I access terminal E (International terminal)?

If I can get to terminal E, is there a waiting area outside of Immigration where I can wait until she gets out?

Anything else I need to know about POE in Atlanta that might make this a more/less desirable option?

If this is posted in the wrong area, please forgive me and suggest where it should be posted.

Thanks,

Bob and Pat

Hi Bob,

I know my way around the Atlanta airport a bit and as far as I can see you can check in for your flight to Chicago, proceed through security and then use the small shuttle train that takes you to the Concourse you want to go.

I don't think there is a waiting area for incoming flight guests at Concourse E, but since your fiancee has a connection flight to Chicago you can meet her at the Concourse (A, B, C or D) from where the flight leaves and do the flight together.

Would be good if both of you have cell phones in case of a delay ....

I hope this helps. Good luck for both of you! :star:

I live in Atlanta, so when my husband came from Egypt in Jan 2008 I waited for him for 3 hours to get thru immigration. I dont know why that night it took so long other than there must have been alot of people going thru immigration but 3 hours was a long time!

That's about what I figured. I've been in and out of ATL many times on biz but never tried or had reason to use concourse E. And yes, I've given her a pre-paid SIM to snap into her phone for when she arrives.. just in case of difficulty.

Thanks for the input!

No, not without being a ticketed passenger because it is behind security

just an FYI, the only problem is that inside the immigration hall no cell phones can be used... If she is hung up in line or in secondary inspection she will not be able to use it

YMMV

Good catch. I will be traveling on a ATL > Chicago ticket so that is not an issue. Sorry if I didn't state that clearly in the initial question.

Oh I TOTALLY relate, Bob! John and I are making our POE in Vegas instead of LAX in order to save on the ridiculously high fees for flying into LAX from London. Grrr.

Flying in to Atlanta from Chicago you can get to terminal E. That is not the problem, the problem is that your SO's flight although lands in Terminal "E" they do not deplane into the concourse. They deplane into immigration, so it is not like you can meet your SO right at the gate. There is no real waiting area outside of immigration. When you exit the last check point of immigration you exit back into terminal E just above the train.

Hope this helps
