I'm waiting for NOA2 (should be anyday now) on K1 visa.

Here's the problem.

Fiance's son (13 yrs) was added to visa, but his English is not so good. He is currently attending boarding school in Thailand. He's a smart kid and good kid. I worry though that if he comes here, his English wont be good enough to keep up in school.

I was reading that fiance on temporary status cannot leave the US and return again. Is this true for dependent son also?

We've been talking about it and wondering if possible to leave him in school in Thailand, and let him come "home" on breaks. But would his visa let him do this every few months?

If his English gets a lot better in the next year or two, happy to have him come live with us and go to school here, but right now I'm pretty sure he'd fail.

If he stays there, he can graduate a good student and go to university.

Anybody else have experience with this?

The best thing to do is to bring him over with his mother and put him in a regular school. Most schools, including public schools, have ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. They will put him in those classes for most part of the day until his English is good enough to handle regular class courses. Since the boy is only 13 years-old he should learn it in no time. I came to the US when I was 13 as well, started school in September and was fluent by December.
