Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here. I am gathering all the papers needed for my interview. My husband has Form 1040 and W2 but I think we need a co-sponsor to sign the affidavit of support I-134. We have his job letter, bank letter 1040 but no W2, is his W2 required as well? Please I need your advice... Thank you in advance.

you need to submit all the schedules and supporting documents for the tax return. Copies of the W2 or 1099 would need to be included.

Wonder what the difference is between the I-134 and the I-864, we were told to use the latter some six years ago, the I-864 also has a I-864A that the immigrant signs to share the responsibility, my wife to be had no problem in signing that, but if you read other sections of this board, if the marriage is not up to par, the USC can really get nailed with the I-864 only. I see not I-134A listed, feel it's a good idea for both partners to share this additional burden. Lets you know you are starting off equally.

Since I am self employed, had no W-2's to submit, just tax returns, and since I tended at that time to put a good share of my gross profits back into my business, had to submit a financial/asset statement as well. But could no longer do that with a wife and a daughter, so have to pay more taxes. Love this country. I had no problems.

I-134 is for interview

I-864 is for Adjustment of Status

I agree, if he/she does not have W2s then get tax transcripts from the IRS.

Since this is for a co-sponsor, it's important to know whether the co-sponsor's tax filing status. If filing single or married filing separately, the transcripts work pretty well. However, married filing jointly, the transcripts don't state which portion of the income is for the co-sponsor. This can be handled with separate evidence of income like an employment letter and/or pay stubs. It is generally preferrable for married co-sponsors to provide complete tax returns including W2 and 1099 forms, where possible.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
