yes, i see the misogynist lads are weighing in on the first lady..and seeing looks as the primary reason to marry..superficial and chopfuckist in nature...

And a Planet of the Apes reference to boot.

Its not half as clever as I imagine "the shooter" thinks it is. It is however, blatantly racist.

Lets see how the "The Shooter" washes his hands of this one.

public position = target on ####.

you're not gonna make me google up some pix of bush next to a monkey, are ya? not the one with his lips photoshopped really big and ears photoshopped outwards? all's fair in politics, buddy.

Yeah just as I thought - you wheel out an example that has blatantly racist connotations and try to wash your hands of the accusation by wheeling out a spurious comparison about photoshopped depictions of George W. Bush on the internet.

You and I are only responsible for what we write - we are not responsible for the writings or depictions of others. You and I are both aware of the racial connotations of certain depictions of blacks - yet you choose to employ them anyway.

You sir, are a racist. And a dishonest one at that.

I don't see his comments as racist. Many people compared Bush to a monkey and created images to "prove" their point.

His main point, however, is that if you run for -- and win -- the presidency, anything said about you is "fair game." If you want a private life, don't become the President.

Come on DPX, a monkey reference is an obvious one there. You can't compare that to monkey pix of bush and claim they are the same.

Whether or not racial overtones may be present, the fact remains that Bush was continually ridiculed on his intelligence, oratory ability and even his looks. Without the latter, no monkey images would have been present.

Once again... if you're going to be the President, expect to take a lot of $hit (no matter who you are or what you do).

Neither Bush or Obama are qualified.

I am qualified. I shall lead this country. My two top advisers would be Darth Vader and Doctor Doom.

Dam. I so wished you had run. You'll probably win by a land slide!

His main point might have been that - but made the point via the promotion of an image that has well-known racist connotations.

Regardless of how GWB might have been depicted, the racial connotations in relation to comparing black people to apes and monkeys exist no matter how one-sided, unfair or otherwise indicative of "double-standards" they might appear to be.

Using that depiction, in full knowledge of the established meaning (as we surely are) is undeniably racist. What Mr Shooter wants to do is challenge the existence of the established meaning of the image he used in order to justify it.

That doesn't matter. The connotations exist in relation to comparing a black person to a primate (there's no parity of meaning in applying the image to a white person). If you're aware of that racially charge meaning and use it anyway in that context - you run the risk of being called racist, especially if (as appears) the image was deliberately employed for the purpose of provoking the reaction.

Yes, you do have to take a lot more ####### when you are a political figure. But saying Bush had the intelligence of a monkey, and saying a black president (or first lady) look like monkeys are not even closely comperable. That is glaringly racist.

Convenient? How does that have any application to what I said. If you can't identify what is clearly a racist reference, well then that's your problem not mine.

They can identify it. They just prefer to hide behind the idea of "double standards" to justify their use of the image and complain that there's no parity in the depiction.

As I said - all that is irrelevant. The connotation implied by that image exists - is established and is undeniable. I'm aware of it - and I don't doubt that most other people here are. That being the case - why would a person knowingly use such an image?

how nice it is to make up a system where one can or cannot be criticised in a certain way based upon his/her ethnic origin.

who's the racist now?

You are Mr Shooter - because (unless you are very very ignorant) you know that comparing a black person to an ape is racist, but you choose to do it anyway and then try to wash your hands of the accusation by complaining that the racial connotation exists in the first place.

You're very transparent in your dishonesty.

That would still be you. It's not an arbitrary system that decides what is and is not racist.

to me, comparing any person to an ape is an insult. i don't differentiate between persons black or white when giving insult. at the time, though, i was considering the photo from a more artistic perspective.

perhaps you are the racist, projecting your own racist imaginings upon a comment i made for entirely unrelated purpose. i was simply remarking the striking resemblance between the dragon lady and kim hunter's zera. look at the picture dispassionately, and you will see the resemblance.

The comparison is still racist.
