Hello I am a Canadian citizen waiting to be approved for a K1 visa. I attended school in the US for 4 yrs and worked for a year after I graduated on OPT. While I was there I opened a bank account. I never closed the bank account when I moved back to Canada and I still use it to make purchases and whatnot when I visited my boyfriend in the US. Is this okay/legal???

AOS/EAD/I-131:

NOA'S Received: March 19, 2010

I've worked in the US too so I have a bank account there. I don't see why it would be a problem.

Yes I am in the same situation as you! I bank through WellsFargo in the U.S. and they allowed me to change the address to my Canadian address on the chequing and credit account I have with them. I use my WellsFargo card occasionally for purchases here in Canada as I still keep some money in the chequing account in the U.S. They do charge you foreign currency conversion fees though which are very minimal, depending on the amount that you purchase. I feel very fortunate that you as well as I have a bank account in the U.S. and some minimal credit history that started 4 years ago with my bank credit card and a couple of department store cards. I guess you have to start somewhere right...my first capital one card had a limit of $300...after a month or two it got bumped up to $500...slowly but surely....Same thing with WF...it sure takes a while!

I went to school in the U.S. and had the EXACT same situation. I still use that bank account to this day! It's not illegal at all. There's nothing saying just because you don't "live" there right now you're not allowed to have it. I've been finished school 2 years now, and mine is still up and running. My grandparents also go back & forth to Florida, so they have U.S. bank accounts too. It's a normal thing! :)

you're too legit to quit right now.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard
