I just mailed my I-751 Packet, then I realized that I wrote both checks to the wrong payee.... I put U.S.C.I.S. instead of United States Department of Homeland Security.

What should I do now? Should I mail another CHECK on Monday?

Goodness.... I do really feel bad about this... What a shame....

Any inputs.... Thanks.

sending a new check will never get matched together with your application, so there is nothing you can do... they may take it, they may not...

YMMV

Hi chizkeyk,

Please 1st :time: or put your info in your signature.

Can you tell us when your GC expires? If you have time don't worry, they will definitely send your packet back telling you the reason it was reject which you know already.

I would suggest once you get the packet back ( which might take 7-10 days) send them via USPS Express with delivery confirmation and also send a money order ( to get NOA faster)

and make it to U.S. Department of Homeland Security don't use abbreviations please as they mentioned not to use them in the I-751 Instructions.

Good Luck.

Hi payxibka,

It's not published any where. But I did it and suggested other VJ I-751 filers and they did and they got their NOA faster. USCIS has to clear check from the bank which can take 3-5 business days or more. MO (Money Order) is like cash and they can deposit and get the funds right away. Please look at my signature.

So in order to save time for clearing the check Money Order gives your faster NOA cause they USCIS don't have to wait for the check to clear and then send the applicant NOA.

well, yeah, common sense dictates as to the usability of MO vs CHECK....

Thanks for replying me back... hoping that they would accept my check... we'll see, otherwise I will expedite mailing it back to them....

Sorry to contradict you, but my NOA was mailed to me, prior to my check clearing (look at my timeline). It was mailed on the same date, that my funds were taken from my account. Had I non sufficient funds and the check bounced, VSC would not have been aware of it for at least a day or two. You need to come up with another theory as to why a MO would be faster.

Hi jane2009/Killer_Clown_2009,

Thanks for your contradiction and it's explanation. It's always good to have discussion and difference of opnions.

I was telling/suggesting based on my experience. I didn't say it was written in stone or a USCIS rule to use MO. I agree with you that there are cases which got NOA even before their check was cleared like yours and the one you shared (exceptons are always there). But most of time folks who used checks have to wait longer than those who used MO, that was the whole point.

It's up to the person to use check or MO, check has advantage as you can see it on your online banking system and the number USCIS put on it, but from common sense and normal day activity checks are not like quickly available funds like MO or cash is. Use of either one is fine, but I would still suggest using of MO than check, thats my take.

Ok, so people's whose NOAs are sent, prior to their check clearing are EXCEPTIONS. Can you please give us some hard statistics to back up your claim? How many cases are you following. USCIS handles hundreds of thousands of applications each year. Do you have an appropriate sample size? Have you run an appropriate statistical test on your data. It is not a good idea to surmise something based on very few incidental cases.

Earlier, you indicated that the State of California had laid off employees at CSC (when employees at USCIS are federal employees) thus slowing applications. You indicated that CSC didn't have a jump in applications. How do you know this? Do you have statistics of how many applications they are handling at a time? I could easily say that because VSC is backed up, that more cases are being transfered to CSC and they are handling more. But I don't have proof of this and therefore would not present it as a fact.

By the way, I was supposed to mail my packet via express mail, but our local postmaster said that Priority and Express Mail will reach its destination by Monday as I mailed it Saturday (and their close on Sunday)---- so why waste $$$ for the Express shipping on weekends??

We'll see via tracking if postmaster's claim is right.

Check vs MO, I will use my check...

We sent ours the cheapest way via USPS, certified mail, return receipt, and ours got there on Monday having been mailed on Saturday. No need to pay double, the USPS is an efficient machine!

We payed by check, and our NOA1 was dated 5/11, which was prior to the check being cashed. No worries as long as your check isn't made of rubber! Good luck!

One last thought though, your check may be rejected along with the entire packet. Not because it is a check, nor because they would wait to cash the check to issue a NOA1, but because of the error in making it payable to USCIS.

If so, don't hesitate to use a new check, made payable to Department of Homeland Security of course!
