I will be sending in my 864 packet on Monday. I, at the moment, am pretty sure I will be using my dad as a co-sponser living in the same houshold. My income last year was plenty sufficiant (since they don't count ADJUSTED gross income). As well as the previous two years, which I have the transcripts. I can also add some assets, checking, Mutual funds and IRA's. (I don't see where I can't include my IRA)

I seem to be edging on using him since I don't have much proof of "self employed" income as I am basically a freelance independent contractor waiting for my next full time deal. In other words, as far as the NVC might look at it I am basically unemployed. Already this year I have earned enough in the five months to double it and "estimate" a yearly income in the mid to upper 20's, (which I'm on track for) However, since I get paid in cash a lot I hardly have any copies of checks and deposit slips, though I have a few. I can provide the last several month's bank stements but they don't show much as I don't always deposit cash.

I'm wondering if I can include a letter stating to use my father "if necessary", but if I'm fine on my own for them not to use him. Though they will have his I-864A with last years tax statement and 1099 as well as their bank statements for the year.

As far as proof of relationship and living in the same house I plan on sending in:

for me: Birth certificate showing he's my dad (though his last name is misspelled by one letter), Copy of my merriage license showing him

listed as my father. Copy of my drivers license showing my address, and a notation for them to look at my address on my tax forms

and my bank stements.

For him: Copy of his drivers license showing same address as mine, and a notation to look at his tax info and bank statements as well to

show address.

Does that seem sufficiant? I have not seen that addresed before.

Thanks,

One more VERY STUPID question. My dad is a Jr. Do I list his last name as ****** jr. or ignore it? Yes it might be dumb but my mind is going nuts right now.

Just trying to cover all possible grounds.

If you are filing the 864, and your father is filing the 864A, don't even bother with sending a letter asking them to use it only if necessary. There is no stake in them holding your father responsible. We did the same thing because my husband was finishing up school, and basically they want that co-sponsor to know that there is backup support. Most people file it and don't think anything of it. Obviously if you got married, are working, and your wife is immigrating, well then you can support yourselves right? :) It's more of paperwork for NVC.

Personally, I would not include a letter asking them to "use if necessary", but other people may have other advice for you.

As for proof of living in the same household, we did a photocopy of my husband & father in law's passport data page, also photocopies of both of their drivers licenses. That was enough information for them.

List "Jr" only if that's how all of his identification (passport, drivers license, birth certificate, etc) is listed as. If not, then don't. My husband and father in law have the same name other than middle names, so it gets confusing!

Good luck in the rest of your journey!
