USC Husband and Canadian Citizenship for him?

I actually think no one rings the doorbell anymore. I've had a few packages from UPS and USPS of late and no one has rang the doorbell because my husband has been home when he works nights. I guess it's not part of their service any more. :lol:

Sorry for my 'confusing' statement!

I worked at CIBC and a lady came in who was American and married to a Canadian for over 15 years. Every couple of years she has to do paperwork she said to maintain her American citizenship but to also allow her to stay in Canada. I said "why not just become a dual citizen? That's what I'm going to do after 5 years." She said "I can't, I would have to surrender my American citizenship to become a Canadian citizen, so I remain a Canadian permanent resident."

Weird? Maybe she needs to do some VJ research! :)

actually you can apply for citizenship after 3 years of being a US permanent resident, if you are married to an American citizen

The only way something like that could happen is if she is a naturalized US citizen. Certain circumstances could possible jeapordize her US citizenship by obtaining another citizenship. But from what I know those are rare and most countries never share their citizenship with another country so the US would never know anyways.

The only forms she is probably filling out are the tax forms that she is required to send every year depending on how much she makes.

So I just think she's taken it too litterly especially for Canada. Now if she was planning on getting an Afhanistan or Iranian citizenship, then I could see the reservation about trying to attempt it as the US isn't on too good terms with them and getting a citizenship with a enemy (or close to it) could revoke your current citizenship. But Canada they will not even care...

Sep - Recieved Advanced Parole

2004

Jan - Interview, accepted for Green Card

Feb - Green Card Arrived in mail

2005

Oct - I-751 sent off

2006

Jan - 10 year Green Card accepted

Mar - 10 year Green Card arrived

Oct - Filed N-400 for Naturalization

Nov - Biometrics done

Nov - Just recieved Naturalization Interview date for Jan.

2007

Jan - Naturalization Interview Completed

Feb - Oath Letter recieved

Feb - Oath Ceremony

Feb 21 - Finally a US CITIZEN (yay)

Our UPS guy rings the bell and has a quick chat :) USPS always rings the bell too.

Maybe my guy can call your guy and your guy can give my guy some pointers? :lol:

the USPS never knocks or anything.. just leaves a little note card in the mailbox which says something like "Sorry we missed you" sorry, my butt, most times I am home all freaking day :P

or sometimes they will just leave the package by the door :blink: I hate that.. we don't live in the greatest neighborhood.... last time they stuck it under the mat.. how nice of them.. :P no, one would notice a lump under the mat and besides which the mat has holes in it :rolleyes:

FEDEX and UPS always knock though... :thumbs:
