We just joined NetFlix and have watched the first seasons of Keeping Up Appearances, The Vicar of Didley, and Graham Norton ( he is soooo funny! ). This has been such a big help in Tony's adjustment here and missing British tv programs.

When I was in England last year while Tony was at work, I watched all the episodes of Men Behaving Badly. I enjoyed them.

Netflix has a load of shows to choose from, what are some of your favorites? ...and tell me a little about them. I have no idea what to pick for myself.

Sitting here bored in the UK.

I'd recommend the British original version of the OFFICE, which unlike the americanised version is actually funny.

PHEONIX NIGHTS is great comedy show based in a northern night club, hilarious to a Brit. and PADDY AND MAX is a spin off of Pheonix Nights that is cool too.

...and JUST CALL ME EARL is the best US show we have over here.

I have to go with Spaced and Black Books myself. As for dramas, I just got back from visiting my fiance in Hartlepool last week and I brought back Life on Mars on DVD. I've been forcing myself to watch them VERY slowly. BRILLANT SHOW!

And so he did what countless punk-rock songs had told him to do so many times before: he lived his life

10/07/2006 WEDDING DAY!

11/14/2006 AOS packet made it to 'the box' after being overnighted.

12/02/2006 Paul had biometrics

12/14/2006 AOS Forwarded to CSC AND AP Application approved.

01/17/2007 First touch of 2007 at CSC

01/20/2007 Touched AGAIN (also the 18th) come on...

February: Oops, RFE for a REGISTERED marriage certificate. Oops! Overnighted it.

02/28/2007 Paul gets email letting us know his GREENCARD is on it's way! It's done...for now!

03/09/2007 Paul's greencard arrives. And breathe...

We began with mailing the I-129 in on February 27, 2006 so the whole process took us approx. one year.

Good luck out there!

Absolutely Fabulous...Catherine Tate...and for some really dark but very funny stuff, try Nighty Night. You should probably try that after you have gone through Little Britain to really understand new Brit humour!

the office is hilarious...yet I don't think the US version is bad either. Many UK shows have been redone in the US, and I'd have to say this is one of the better ones.

Phoenix nights and Max and Paddy are hilarious, ITA

now Lil Brit used to be funny to me, but now I think it's overdone...eh, whaddya gonna do? ;)

We found "nighty night" on, of all places, the "O" network. On Wednesday nights. Funny it was on that channel, and not BBC America. Good stuff, that. They also have "Suburban Shootout".... I've heard Showtime has bought the rights to do an American version of Nighty Night... but you know how that goes - example: The Office... poor copy.

Actually, it was after reading this thread that we decided to join! :) The turnaround time for receiving DVD's is pretty quick too.

It was hard at first for me to understand British humor. Still working on that one! ;) We'll have to try some of the ones mentioned here so far.

Has anyone here watched Some Mothers Do ave em with Michael Crawford? We're waiting on that one to arrive.

I can't believe they're gonna try a remake of NN - it's gonna be horrendous  We saw NN on Oxygen too. Surbaban Shootout took a lil getting used to but I like it a lot now. I have quite a few UK comedy DVDs if anyone wants to start a loan system going....? Will only swap for current stuff tho...none of that 70's ####### ;)

The Book Group is hilarious. No one has mentioned The Royal Family, which is class. We also love Teachers. We recently acquired all of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. My husband downloaded some sort of bit torrent thing (forget what it's called) and we download UK tv all the time- he's sorted it so he can put it on rewritable dvd- I keep up with Corrie, we also watched Springwatch, we get Jonathon Ross, Buzzcocks, we have seen Suburban Shootout. The only catch with this is you are about a week behind, it's difficult to sort out, and if it's on dvd they don't have it. PM if anyone wants info on this- I can get my husband to walk you through it.

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.

French and Saunders never cease to amuse me. ;)

Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Last of the Summer Wine, Good Neighbors, Lady of the Manor (I think it's called...darn my memory...it's the one with the same actress from Good Neighbors only she plays the only highborn in a small village), Are You Being Served?

I'm probably dating myself, but those were the ones I grew up enjoying.

Oh, and Red Dwarf.

edit: Gotta love IMDB.com. It's not Lady of the Manor it's "To the Manor Born"
