I had an attorney and I paid her $1000.00 to file my I-130. She did a great job and i got my approval in less than 2 months on the may, 12, 2009. I got a congrat letter from her and she said that i am done with your case and now u just fill some forms and then go for interview and thats it. I am still waiting for my package from the immigration, I got an email from my attorney again today and she wants me to hire her again and she wants $1500.00 more to do the rest of the work. I am just asking your opinions that is it worth it for me to pay her $1500.00 or can i do my self the rest of the work. I already done my AFFADEVIT OF SUPPORT FORM READY. Please let me know if i still still need my attorney or not? Thank you for any input. Any reply will be greatly appreciate. abby n sheryl

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

First attorneys cannot push your case to be processed any sooner than uscis will process it so the two months was uscis' doing not your lawyer's.

Second you need to file the rest of the papers yourself, call NVC at 603-334-0700 and find out the status of your case.

DO NOT USE AN ATTORNEY. IF YOU NEED HELP, WE CAN HELP. I DID IT AND MANY OTHERS HERE SO CAN YOU.

I agree..You don't need an attorney. Some people actually got there I-130 completed within a month. The Process is very easy. Use that money for your AOS and IV bill instead. Good luck with the rest of your Journey.

She is charging too much for NVC alone. We also had an attorney (kind of hubby's choice plus we had some complications) and he took around $900 for USCIS+NVC+Consulate stage. But I had to do most of the leg work, he worked only as second pair of eyes.

Anyways as others have attested you don't need an attorney, follow through this guide and you should fly through NVC!

Here is my humble opinion on the subject:

The only reason one should hire an attorney in this matter is if there is something in your or your husband/fiance's past that's not squeaky clean and in your heart of hearts you feel like it may pose a problem.

But if you're two honest people genuinely in love / marriage (together ) then paying for an attorney is not a good idea in my opinion. The visa process has changed a lot in such short time and with the information posted here and kind people willing to help, there is no reason why shouldn't be able to complete the process yourself.

Good luck whatever you decide!

IN MY OPINION, DON'T HIRE ATTORNEY OR IMMIGRATION LAWYER. MY HUSBAND AND I DIDN'T HIRE SO WE CAN SAVE ALOT OF MONEY. ALL WE DID IS JUST FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES PROVIDED HERE IN VISAJOURNEY. WE FILLED UP CORRECTLY THE FORMS AND WE CALLED THE HOTLINE NUMBER IN USCIS ONE TIME WHEN WE WERE CONFUSED OF A CERTAIN MATTER, BUT THE REST, WE WERE ON OUR OWN. JUST AS LONG AS YOU KNOW AND FOLLOW WHAT THE GUIDELINES IN AN APPROPRIATE VISA CATEGORY, YOU WOULD BE FINE. IMPORTANT THINGS ARE: YOU SHOULD KNOW THE POVERTY GUIDELINES FOR AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT, YOUR HEALTHY AND NO CRIMINAL RECORDS.
