Original Documents vs Copies

Ok...so I am gathering the info for the AOS package, as well as for the IV package. Am I going to need originals of anything else? I know I sent in my original marriage certificate with the petition in the beginning.

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

If they ask for originals, you need to provide them, other than that, copies are acceptable.

That's not true, I have the e-mail letter that NVc just sent to me today. It says orginal copies of all documents.

Wait, I was just reading through the LingChe guide...it says that in addition to sending in the original documents, you must also send in photocopies...is this true? Who's done this recently that knows?

It was true a few months ago but recently NVC has gone through a lot of changes. I went through the process last year and we didn't have any email correspondence with NVC unlike how it goes right now.

I agree with Bobby Umit....if they ask for originals, send originals. Otherwise, copies will suffice.

When you do send in the originals, you do not have to send in a second set of photocopies...maybe that was an old requirement.

Agree.. I didn't send second set of copies and had no problem with it. Good luck!!
