"Comprehensive Immigration Reform Must Hold Employers To Account For The Workers They Hire"

They don't need no reform for that. Just ought to enforce the existing laws. If they can't do that (and apparently they can't), they can't make me believe that they will enforce "reformed" laws.

It's a bunch of publicity and like BS to push the amnesty the Pres wants...

Wouldn't holding employers accountable for the workers they hire solve the whole problem? Take away the prospect of work and they won't come.

I don't believe Bush is in favor of "amnesty" - does he ever actually use that word? I doubt it.

Does he use the word "amnesty"? Of course not. He calls it "a path to citizenship". The difference? About $2,000.00.

Add a few zeros on that - there's no "path to citizenship" without returning to their country, going through the proces and paying fines. I believe the fine is $10,000 total (probably not a realistic option for most).

$2,000, $10,000.00 whatever. Unlawful presence in the US for more than 365 days carries a mandatory 10-year ban on re-entry. This ban will be waived. The "fee" for this waiver is irrelevant. Any US citizen or lawful resident that blatantly violates all kinds of laws and cheats Uncle Sam in the manner in which the illegals do would be punished much more severely. This proposal puts the illegal crowd officially above the law (they are above the law already today but nobody wants to admit it) and that just ain't right. It's an amnesty no matter how much lipstick they try and put on that pig.

Not disagreeing with you - just saying that it doesn't seem like there are too many people who will end up going down "a path to citizenship" because of the costs.

Not so sure. Looking at some of the wheels some of these guys roll on down here in FL, 10K would seem to be a pittance.

# "OPPOSED TO ANY AMNESTY." Don't trust anybody who only talks about "amnesty." Nearly every amnesty supporter has persuaded him/herself that the rewards they are granting illegal aliens do not amount to an amnesty. They have come up with all kinds of tortured definitions in which almost nothing could be called amnesty.

# "OPPOSED TO A BLANKET AMNESTY." That just means that they are opposed to an amnesty that would fail to weed out criminals and that wouldn't charge people a fine. But almost anybody who uses that term is supporting an amnesty for 95% of the illegal aliens.

# "OPPOSED TO ANY IMMEDIATE PATH TO CITIZENSHIP." If they say this, that means they are supporting the President's new amnesty that would start with Z Visas and might take 17 years before an illegal alien gets citizenship. But they would immediately be legalized for work and residence and almost none would ever have to leave, under the new Bush plan.

# "OPPOSED TO ANY PATH TO CITIZENSHIP." This is better. But we know for a fact that many of the Senators using this language are reserving the possiblity that they will support legislation that would allow illegal aliens to live and work here legally for the rest of their lives -- just without the chance for citizenship.

Another BS attempt for immigration 'reform'. Are so many politicians that stupid?? I am sure they will give them amnesty.

If the laws where enforced anyone here illegally would be forced to go back home; as their source of income would be cut. Also the benefit of hiring them has to be outweighed by the punishment for hiring them. Only then will this stop.

People also say where will the 12 million+ people illegally in the country go.. Pretty simple actually. Go back to where they came from. And if they don't we can gladly assist..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
