"Comprehensive Immigration Reform Must Hold Employers To Account For The Workers They Hire"

They don't need no reform for that. Just ought to enforce the existing laws. If they can't do that (and apparently they can't), they can't make me believe that they will enforce "reformed" laws.

It's a bunch of publicity and like BS to push the amnesty the Pres wants...

Wouldn't holding employers accountable for the workers they hire solve the whole problem? Take away the prospect of work and they won't come.

I don't believe Bush is in favor of "amnesty" - does he ever actually use that word? I doubt it.

Maybe if they dont leave any loopholes what so ever. Its one thing to hire someone as an employee, but another as an independent contractor. If they dont put the same laws and restirctions on independent contractors as they would employees, all your illegal aliens will become contractors. It is already that way for a good number of these workers. Getting picked up in the morning, and paid cash at the end of the day. No checks, no record.

Enforce the current laws and kick the illegal immigrants out.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I like how he tucked a temporary worker program in there near the end, where most people have already stopped reading.

I oppose temporary/guest worker programs because it allows businesses to continue screwing over American workers by exploiting cheap migrant labor to increase their profit margins. Plus, let's be honest...we all know these workers are not 'temporary' or 'guests'. They'll go to the US and stay forever.

Does he use the word "amnesty"? Of course not. He calls it "a path to citizenship". The difference? About $2,000.00.

Add a few zeros on that - there's no "path to citizenship" without returning to their country, going through the proces and paying fines. I believe the fine is $10,000 total (probably not a realistic option for most).
